IOF 30-06 vs .315 rifle

Post by msandhu » Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:21 pm

Hi,
I am in the market for a rifle for a close relative. No dealer in Amritsar has 3006 at this time and they say that they all say that its not worth the extra cost as compared to .315.
I would like to know the view from the members with experience with both guns. If we compare both the guns , what are pros and cons ( other than the cost difference) between the two guns and which one will you recommend.
Regards
MSandhu

If you want to take part in a rifle competetion or if you want long rannge accuracy then you can go for 30-06 ....for general use 315 will do the job.....

3006 is for long range whereas 315 has for lesser range more power(little)

it all depends on the reason your friend wants to do. if to enter comps then 3006 would make a good rifle. or just to have a rifle then go for 315 as may be a little cheaper.

as for the pros and cons, check out the iof 3006 and 315 threads plenty of info there.

It is a common practice of most of the sellers to praise the product they have in hand(or the one that has less chances to be sold) and criticize the product that they do not have. .30-06 is far better and versatile round as compared with .315. Unless I want to save a few thousand bucks, I would go for .30-06. If dealers in Amritsar do not have .30-06 that should not become a reason for not buying .30-06. For the IOF .30-06, can try Bobby Siddhu of Peerless Firearms in Patiala : Ph. 09417008529, 09878608529 Ref: http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... &start=263

There is a wide wide variety of Imported ammo, freely available, for the .30-06 while only desi Indian ammo for the .315.

I am not saying that the desi .315 ammo does not do the 'Job' though...

The primary reason for buying this gun is Defense or occasional shooting. I don't think my relatives have any inclinations towards competitive sports.

Hi Amit357,
It is a news to me and many of us that production of .315 is stopping.. As far as i know they IOF started a new factory in Tricnhanpalli for .315 while other factories have started production of .30-06..

Hi Naga,
They already have a handgun and DBBL shotgun but they want to keep a rifle also in the farmhouse which is little outside the main village also.

MSandhu

rifle as you know are not so handy for self defence, they should go for a hand gun. or another shotgun.
what it seems to me is that they want one of each. thats fine, ask them to have a rethink.

Are they moving from a Sauer clone to a Winchester clone?
