customs didn't mark anything on the suitcase, I declared it myself, thinking that they would appreciate my honesty and the also the fact, that 0.177s are importable duty free, I thought it wouldn't be an issue with them. Boy was I wrong...

You know what people, next time Customs tells you pay 100% duty on bringing in an AR, please pay the 100% duty and get the receipt. After you're home, please make your case with the rifle club membership documents, the DGFT documents and apply for a refund with Customs. Sure, you'll have to do some running around, but they'll have to release the duty payment to you.

Regards
Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Hi Guys, the moment you offer to pay the 100% customs duty on a .177 airrifle the officer will get coldfeet.
He wont ask for a penny as duty instead will coax you into settling for 50-50 without receipt.
Try it you wont believe the results.
A friend of mine got a .177 PCP from Uk and was asked for a FIREARM LICENCE.The officer said this is a new notification.Friend barged into the AC's cabin and demanded to see the new notification,Believe me the AC backtracked and said that maybe the officer mistook it for real firearm.Later it was released with an apology.
This is what happens only in india.
If its a .177 stand up for your rightful import.Dont get cowed down.

(Edited:Even as you are right  ,you know better than to put that in print. Please don't do that again.Thanks-Moderator)

Point taken Sir,
Its just that these black people in white frustrate you to the point of no return.
Was in UK a week back,at the customs my bags were opened and searched by UK customs officer and later repacked and returned with an apology, also a thankyou for the patience and co-operation.
Thats the way our customs should behave, they are the face of our country.
Sadly they choose to behave otherwise.

agree with nagarifle and ven99, gunrunner not so easy to stand up and talk sense to the customs people unless one is influential.
