Hi Guys,
I am new to the fascinating Gun world.. I wanted to buy a co2 air gun (a pistol or a shotgun). can someone please guide me with the basics of choosing or do i need to consider something i omitted or don't know about? I have shifted to a place away from the city where incidents such as loots and robberies are on a rise (i know its not a wise idea shifting there..). I feel its best if i have something powerful enough to hurt someone but not kill em..
I fancy a shotgun but i don't know if there are co2 versions of them available. I am from Gujarat.
Any help is much appriciated in advance. Looking forward to own one soon. Pls let me know the price range we're talking about and i don't want any permit hasstle.
Cheers
Harshal

Hi Harshal,
Welcome to IFG, I am confident you will enjoy it. Personally I would not recommend any kind of air gun for self defense, since in all probability it will not stop an attacker, on the contrary will irritate him, make him more furious and dangerous. Shotgun is a firearm(probably you have already seen a shotgun "Donali" with bank guards), it requires a firearm license. For obtaining firearm license please refer to "The Legal Eagle" section of this website.
a)house should have strong doors and windows preferably with strong iron grills, which should be properly shut and locked. In many cases robbers prefer to enter via bathroom, kitchen windows, back-doors, terrace doors leading into the house, since they are sure that nobody is in there and noise will not be audible to occupants sleeping in house.
b)Do not allow strangers into your home, even if they say are hurt or say they need help. Keep the door locked and call neighbors or police for them.
c)Do not advertise that you live alone or when not at home.
d)Keep your curtains closed at night.
e)Keep outdoor lights on at night.
f)If you arrive home and your door is open or things appear to be out of place - don't go in your home. Leave immediately, alert your neighbors and call the police.
g)If living alone or with a small family, do not keep a servant etc. who will be able to pass on information to undesirable people either knowingly or unknowingly.
h)Keep a dog with you that will alert you by barking and scare away potential robbers etc. If for some reason you do not want to keep a dog, regularly feed neighborhood stray dogs in the evening and they will develop affinity with you and sleep near your house. No criminal likes lot of stray dogs barking at night and awakening the neighborhood.
h)Have a mobile with speed-dialing of important numbers like police, relatives, friends, neighbors.

Well getting a firearm is just one element among many others, when joined together are used to safeguard oneself against any violent crime. Just the possession of a gun in itself is not a complete solution for prevention of any violent crime. In addition to firearms following preventive steps are equally important:I have shifted to a place away from the city where incidents such as loots and robberies are on a rise

Hi goodboy_mentor & ven99. I see the point you're trying to tell me. Thanks for an early reply. Apart from self-defence, say if i do want to buy a CO2 Airgun/Airpistol, what are my options? What will it cost me to buy a used one from IGF users itself. Will there be any maintainence costs on top of the normal usage of pellets and CO2 cartraidges. I don't fancy a really expensive one but a decent one under 10K will do. Thanks for your help in advance.

Harshal

Myself not much familiar with airguns. You can refer http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1392 or Yellow pages for Arms Dealers at http://indiansforguns.com/viewforum.php?f=41 to contact any gun dealer and inquire if he deals in CO2 Air rifles/guns/pistols
