The only armoury in my district doesn't have one and neuther have I succeeded in finding out a dealer who can send me the same through post or courier. searched for weeks together in the web but to no avail. Searched the aimco site n sites of Indian arms corporation but got no response. Aimco responded that they are out of stock of the same.
i am totally clueless as to how I can manage to get one. Kindly advice me frnds.......
also i would like to know if my choice of a ihp national is a fair bet or not as a beginner in the field?

Hello there,
As far as plinking is concerned, any gun can help you. If you are seriously into target shooting, better get into the competition mode. I am just a novice in this field. Better wait for the Big guns to respond. No matter what, try to get into a shooting club with affiliation to a district/ state / national club. It will help you to get better guns. Not better aptitude. Best of Luck.
U can try the following regarding ur home state ( My Neighbor):

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

hii navneeth,
i am from kollam. i am also in search of a good air rifle. i think you are not going to get it in palakkad. better come to cochin, try either at cochin armoury or at jacobs armoury. both are good. aimco is good but you have to pay the freight charges around Rs.800-1000. the best available indian model is national (IHP). for .177 national 35 air rifle the price is Rs.3750/- at jacobs at trivandrum. must be same at cochin also. If you are seriously looking into target shooting, better go for national.phone number of cochin armoury is 0484 2371598 & jacobs armoury is 0484 2355149.
regards

Don't waste your money on IHP or any other Indian spring air pistol. Save some more and get your self an IHP 10mtr competition air pistol or if you just want for plinking, any used foreign air pistol.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.
