Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route

Hi,

My cousin is bringing a beretta 92fs co2 pistol next week from texas to chennai. Any pointers or suggestions?. Pls could someone enlighten me as to why we cannot bring the pistol and pellets together as checked in luggage?. Much appreciated.

i'm sure you can bring both pellets and pistol on the same flight. conventional wisdom suggest packing them in different bags simply so that, if someone pinches your pistol, they don't pinch the ammo as well. Same logic as storing the ammo away from the firearm.

I thought I read somewhere in this link that it is not allowed to bring both pistol and pellets together as it is against the law.

Also they mentioned that the import of pellets is not allowed, even .177 cal pellets to members of the rifle associations in their view is technically banned. They then showed me some document that listed import policy which listed air gun pellets in the same category as torpedoes and bombs

gents one can bring arms and ammo on the same flight. However check the airline policy. as many people i know take both with them in separate cases.

and its none of the customs business that say one can not bring both on the same flight. reason air line are not subjected to customs rules or authority.

Urgent, I need to know if my cousin can check in co2 cartridges in the checked in luggage , or does one need clearence for this from airline?. Pls enlighten.

CO2 cartridges......empty should be fine, but you have to display them at check in.

Full CO2 catridges: nope. Do not take compressed gas onboard. They will be refused if you declare them, and a big flight safety hazard if you don't

I am planning on getting a 0.177 350 magnum Diana air rifle through the Bangalore International Airport. I am not a member of any club. I will be using cathay pacific and coming via USA.

I would like to hear from people who have imported air guns through BIAL, do they enforce the deal wood test in Bangalore? How much is the duty?

At 1250 fps I am doubtfull of the diana passing the test.

Without the club membership, there is a zero possibility to get your gun out via chennai airport. Don't blamed me later that I haven't warned you.

Man this is bad news for me, the latest development for me is that emirates needs 7 working days to get clearence to carry the gun as checked in baggage my cousin is leaving in 5 days and hence pyramis air suggested that they courier the gun home and have promised me that the gun will be delivered home. I live in coimbatore and want to know whether the parcel needs to be cleared th the chennai airport first. Can I get the help of any friend who has a membership?.

I dont understand why this gun wont get through without club membership, it is not a firearm right?. Pls advice what I need to do in a big fix now, I need to atleast get pyramid air to stop the consignment.

ven99, You havent specified caliber here though .22 caliber is allowed in personal baggage but some peoples faced trouble for .22 Caliber so better to stick on .177 for safest bet. So far I heard that mumbai airport is one of the coolest among india when bringing airgun is concerned in personal baggage. NO need to have a Rifle Club membership and that is not mandatory. If you have one that is good but that is not a mandatory requirement. Make sure you have all the papers and invoice where it clearly marked as .177 caliber. Carry the govt notifications and factory manual to show it is an air rifle and NOT an actual firearms. Just go through the previous post here and will find lot of other information which I may have missed. All the best for you and do post your experience after reaching India with your air rifle.
