Amen to naga's wishes.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Zoo,
FYI: Heard recently from a friend that Emirates no longer allows airguns to be carried back. My friend's friend recently wanted to bring back a HW100 back with him to India, but was prevented from doing so. Reason given was that the policies of Emirates had changed recently. You can however use their cargo service to ship it to India.

Re: Getting an air rifle from Dubai
Finally home. Dubai airport was a breeze. Declared to security before scanning that there was an air rifle in the suitcase. They only asked to see the receipt and suggested i get the bag wrapped in cling film which I did. They also told me better not to declare it at AI check -in saying we have have cleared it that is enough. Went and checked in with wife and 2 year old son in tow. Everything went well tell we landed in India. Went through immigration and picked up our luggage headed off to the green channel.
Found a decent looking fellow(never judge a book or a customs officer by his looks) declared to him that I had an air rifle in my bag. START OF HELL...time : 2.15 am
This decent fellow went about telling 3-4 other gents(aka bast..... in whites, herewith to be reffered to as b.i.w) suddenly everyone and his father was around me. I explained the situation, showed them my rifle club membership and the notifications for import of air rifles and pellets.
'No, that is not true,There is 100% duty on air rifles and you have to get Police NOC and the cost of that procedure will also be included and then 100% duty will be charged.'
After everyone gave their interpretation, they moved away and I was basically left with 2 b.i.w. Repeatedly asking them to show me the rulebook, they managed to evade doing it and instead showed me the article for import of firearm cartridges(only 50 allowed), I had a few tins (6 tims of 250 each). I said sir, these are air rifle pellets not fire arm cartridges, No he said they are the same thing.
Time 2.45. Wife fuming, son crying, brain getting fried. Then the good cop bad cop routine started, one saying do a settlement otherwise leave the rifle and then we'll see what happens, procedures will take their own time. The bad cop was a guy(named A.K) he just refused to listen to any reasoning flaring up for no reason even told me I am doing you a favour so you better settle now or see what happens.
They went on claiming duty was 100% without showing any proof for it and rubbishing the documents I had. Time 3.30am. son rolling on floor crying his heart out, wife ready to punch anybody (either me, for getting the AR or customs guys for harassing us) .
After another 20 minutes, I am ashamed to admit it and have been feeling very lowly of myself since then for doing it , but I succumbed, greased their palm and left. It was 4.00 am.
Basically, they were not interested in seeing what the gun was, (0.177 or 0.22), my membership card or anything else as long as they got their settlement. Makes me wonder whether to get a 0.22 next
So I'm home now, awake and waiting to assemble my gun and start plinking.
Thanks to all of you who gave advise and best wishes.

Re: Getting an air rifle from Dubai
Andy, this was Mumbai International Airport.
Naga, I am thinking of it. I remember the name of the fellow. Any ideas how to go about it?
Tirths, pics soon. Price was 1780 AED(@ 12.85INR) and grease bought was for 12.5K
i could have used that much grease for my car, its entire life.
many times during my tryst with destiny, i could see my self, alternating between punching mr A.K in the face and stomping on him, but I had to refrain myself, for my son's future
