Bringing an Air Pistol To India- EXPERIENCE
Hello everyone,
I finally got my gamo p800 .177 cal pistol . My mum and dad bought it, and it was just a 15min official procedure. They went to air port in the Uk. Show the pistol to air india lady at the counter there and she said that we have no problem with it but u better get in written from the customs officer. She guided them to customs officer whose office was just a few steps from there. Within seconds He looked at the pistol and invoice of the seller and said that its fine and they can take it. They took it in writing from my fater, just in case .He even asked weather they had pellets. they said no. Then the lady took the pistol and send it via priority mail to India, when my parents reached india they collected the pistol and came out of air port. There was no procedure in India, except for showing the pistol slip and collecting the pistol from a nearby counter. They didnt even take the deal wood test. From this i learnt that the air india ppl are quite courteous (atleast in uk) and that u could bring .177 cal airguns or air pistols , irrespective of how much powerful it is, safely. Not sure about the pellets. My parents were surprised to see thats it was soo smooth, they were rather expecting more hassle, like an hour or two..but 15minutes is amazing . So i got my gun and now i am trying to zero the rear sight. Ill be making another post giving the full review of the pistol along with pics.
Regards
King

Congrats King for the Gamo. It's nice to read a post once in a while, where somebody's AR is not stuck at customs. Let's hope we have more of such posts.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Priority Mail of 1st Class mail generally means it has a higher priority on delivery than normal mail. Those of us old enough to remember would harken back to the Land Mail and Air Mail in India.

C'mon MoA.. I know that. Please read King's post again.
I am wondering what priorty main has to do with airgun coming as personal baggage..
I think air hostess must have taken gun from King's parents and gave them back on Delhi Airport...
Hmmm

They packed the gun as in mail and said that they would send it as priority and would load then gun in the plane seperately along with other priority goods. and they gave them the gun back when the plane landed in India.

I suppose they loaded the airgun seperately like they did with your pro sport Inder.
Good job King234. enjoy your air gun, and tell us how she shoots.
I remember discussing air pistols as baggage with another member here and we realised that both customs and airport authorities seem to be far more relaxed about them than air rifles. maybe they don't look threatening?

The one i got looks way to threatening, its bigger than any air pistol. And it makes alot of noise, deadly accuracy with those grooves in the barrel That most indian guns dont have. Not to mention the safetyhamiclar01 wrote:I suppose they loaded the airgun seperately like they did with your pro sport Inder.
