Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Issue resolved)
I can see the gun has some ability though:)
This is a typical springer character. If you get a the most accurate gun also, you cannot expect to get 1" group unless you get used to with it and learn to hold. You cannot hold all springer same way.
Good Luck!

I need some guidance about the front sight. Can I file off the ball and make it pointed?

Why to you want that?vijaycool wrote:I need some guidance about the front sight. Can I file off the ball and make it pointed?
If you still want, my preference would be to file-off both side rather chop-off the entire ball

Congrats for your 500th post . It appears too big in front of the target.tirths wrote:Why to you want that?vijaycool wrote:I need some guidance about the front sight. Can I file off the ball and make it pointed?

Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Issue resolved)
Perhaps I have got a lemon. Trigger auto release suddenly sprang up one day and that too an extent when I cocked the sear disengages and pushed the barrel up with a tremendous force. Luckily i am not hurt but the stock broke . I went to the shop and told the incidents happened. The shop keeper told me there is no guarantee for the wood but he will replace the other parts. I changed the whole gun except stock with a new one . I spoke abt exchanging with new stock and he asked for 1.5K extra. I am not ready to pay anything extra which may break in future. There is a good 4 inch crack near the trigger area and i am planning to fix it by myself. Help me in this regard.

Vijay, It can be fixed very well. I have done once and posted the procedures here. If you have time, you can do a search.vijaycool wrote:Perhaps I have got a lemon. Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Update)
I have opened the rifle today. It was actually a rust pit inside. It takes almost 2 hours just to dismantle the piston from the tube. It has got slanted transfer port and spring was not canted but the spring ends are more crude. started to polish the guide from 120, 220, 320, 600 grit and oiled to prevent rust. The tube is really crude and its a seamed tube yet to find a machinist to grind the tube. Piston is another joke need to polish the ends. I have brought new leather seal and soaked up in coconut oil. Tonight i will be joining the broken stock.

Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Update)
These two days have been positively good. I have found a shop near my house doing honing job. I gave the piston and tube today. Initially he had doubts whether it can be grinded all the way inside to remove the seam and later he acknowledge. Tomorrow with my presence he will be doing some grinding and honing job . I could not take any pics as the tube is pretty dark inside for the pics. When he pit the tube on the chuck the tube is wobbling. I need to check tomorrow whether it has any bend . The ends of the spring has been grinded flat and the broken stock is now re-joined .
Lessons Learned.
Initially after fixing it up i tried to fix the brass screw in the stock. The screw tried to push the two pieces apart so there is a gap between the two pieces. I will be screwing again once the epoxy sets. You can use nails when the epoxy is wet but it wont work well with screws. After removing the screws some saw dust have been applied over the crack.
Regards,
Vijay

Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Update)
Some good progress today. Removed the clamps and started sanding the stock. De-burred the tube with 80 grit stone and finished with 400 grit. Unfortunately the seam is still there . Honing is not done may be by next week i may do that. Removed the rust from the piston and finished with 600 grit. Now there is some gap between the piston and the tube so I need to button the piston skirt. The tube was slightly bent but not on the compression chamber hence not worried.
You can still see the seam around 12 o clock position. I will not go for synthetic seal. Do i need honing ?

good going. You still need to do some honing if you need bit of power.

Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Update)
Yesterday I buttoned the piston and lubed the cylinder with silicone grease and bearing (black) grease. Fitted everything together this morning. There is some disappointment. The piston fit is too tight may be due to the button tightness but the real downer is pellet hitting sideways and also there is spring buzz when i press the trigger. The power is also less but it may increase once we use it regularly.
Please tell me what could be the problem. I tried with mastershot pointed pellet. Is that a barrel defect?

As I mentioned in my earlier post about "key holing"of the pellet (hitting the target sideways) . The problem at the moment is uneven muzzle crown causing the pellet to flip.
This is the tool my machinist made for the purpose. He gave some lapping paste so i can do it at my home. Let me see whether i can succeed or not .

Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Update)
There is some slow progress this time. Last week I met Tirtha in chennai exchanged our ideas... There is a high possibility of increasing the volume by 1 cm. The piston sear again gave up when we are testing the gun. So its high time to fix the sear. The goal is to make the piston sear short by 1 cm to get more volume and thus marginal power increase. The rod end has been grinded flat by 1 cm and rest of the gap is filled by SS welding rod. Right now i am hand filing to shape the sear. Its very hard to grind the SS. Earlier Mild steel grinds like chalk.
Another one is the leather seal is leaking the air behind the tube. The leather is beaten up and mixed with thin oil but yet the air is escaping behind, when i tried to push the piston and closing the transfer port.

Re: My first Air gun experience - Commando (Update)
The new piston sear is shortened as much as 8~9 mm welded with SS rod. Pics will tell more story.
The piston slot gap was welded, grinded and polished to increase the stroke length to accommodate the short sear.
Repaired Gun stock.
