Re: spring specs IHP.22
thanks for the input, the original spring is of 3mm thickness, I have made 2 springs with the thickness of 3.2mm and 3.6mm whith the same OD as the original hence the Inner dia will be lesser than the original and it is shorter by 1 ring. The reason I have gone in for thicker spring is for more power. I hope I am in the right direction. What does the leangth of the spring determine?.
also Pls let me know how to add an avatar...not able to do it. thanks'

Re: spring specs IHP.22
3.2 will do. for 3.6 you got to remake the spring guide as you have already mentioned the od is same as IHP. By the way, thicker wire will not give more power if the hole size is constant. There should be good room to achieve the required tensile strength.
Good luck!

Re: spring specs IHP.22
i dont understand the hole size, do u mean the distance between the rings or the inner dia? if thicker wire will not make it more powerful, pls help me understand why you reccomend a 3.2 against the 3?. for 3.6 to be effective do you mean the OD has to be bigger?
do you suggest a nylon washer?
do you know where I can get a scope?
what is the pound rating of the original spring?
could you also pls explain the effect of a shorter or longer spring?
pls reccomend some ideas to get more power..
thanks

Re: spring specs IHP.22
1. Hole : the cylinder where spring will fit in.
2. Since you made 3.2 I just said it will fit into your existing stuff otherwise I would have asked you to go for 2.9~3mm which you will have more pleasure to shoot.
3. With existing design, you can only increase power by changing the seal. Here is the details : http://www.indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=7480
4. Since you have made a spring I am sure you took care of the proper stress relieve. Just a suggestion. Please SET the spring under right tool to avoid canting the spring.

Re: spring specs IHP.22
Thanks for the update.
I got the spring made locally and have not looked into the stress relive, did not know about it.
I tried getting the seal mentioned in the topic u sent as an attachment but not able to source the O ring and adapter, is it available in any shop where they manufacture O rings or do I need to pick it up from a gun shop?. The J M seal mentioned is it Indian make? does it have a code number?.
Pls advice how to source a scope?. I have found a person willng to part with his BSA airgun with scope about 20yrs old what is a good buy for it?.

Re: spring specs IHP.22
hi tirths,
today was a good day of learning, dismantled the gun and tried the new spring which I had made localy unfortunatly the trigger would not lock and had to go back to the old spring. The local spring does not retain the tension and remains compressed even after it is not loaded
Pls let me know where I can get a good spring for my gun. appreciate all the ideas.

Re: spring specs IHP.22
its not about the bigger spring its about the springs ability to attain to non tension position quickly, the quicker the spring attains that the faster the movement of the piston and faster the pressure builds up behind the pellet before it leaves it seat, if the pressure is built slow it will be reaching the peak when the pellet is alredy outta muzzle and the air is wasted.

Now you know why I have said that proper stress relieve is important?drifter wrote:hi tirths,

Coming back to your question: since the thickness for the new spring is more that that of IHP therefore the compressed length has been increase a bit which causing difficulties of cocking. You may like to cut-off 1~2 ring which solve this problem.
Where to source the new spring, I am not sure. Someone here can guide you.

For IHP35:
Coil Bound(when total spring compressed) = 4.75"
ID(not less then) =.5040"
OD=.7400" and it can take upto .8110

found the sale topic, but not able to find the topic where striker has posted. pls direct
I have cut two rings in the spring and have tempered it, do you think it would be worth trying to instal it in the gun again?
