Review on MOD 200 of AIMCO.CO.IN

Post by kitty » Wed Oct 14, 2009 11:35 pm

Hi Guys.... I am here with the review of my MOD 200 air rifle from aimco.co.in.

I really don't know the technical terminologies associated with air guns. . I try to put it as simple as possible and the following is the story
First of all sorry for posting this review late as I got the gun on 9th oct only. :)
Now the story...

I deposited Rs.2400/- in ICICI bank and informed aimco through mail. Same day they packed M200 and sent it to Gati Cargo. They gave Docket number to track the goods with the assured date of delivery on 9th Oct. I kept tarck of it from gati website and exactly on 9th Oct 6 PM it was door delivered from Gati. They charged Rs.665/- for fright. My mom gave me a call and informed me about the goods arrival. I almost stood up from my chair hurriedly signed off from office and started home.....

I was very exited to see that very well packed goods.... even with out changing the cloths I took it to garage to open it. It really took 20 mins for me to open it. The gun was so verry well packed. Great work from Aimco.

Next I opened the final polythene cover... wow.... this is one fantastic and beauty full gun........ I kept looking at it rather than start shooting... it is really a sexy gun....... It was heavily oiled and was too slippery even to hold it... I wiped all the exterior oil with tissue papers.... Now the gun is really shining.... and looking absolutely beautiful..

Now the performance part...

As I already have IHP MOD 35 .22 with me..., I knew what I have to expect from good Indian Made Airgun....
So my expectation was at least nearer to IHP.
This M200 is really heavy and IHP shooters may feel bit uncomfortable in the beginning......
cocking effort is considerably higher than IHP and trigger is hard to squeeze but the balance is very good.

OK... I used pointed head master shot pellet for this gun...
first shot.... there was a loud bang and lot of smoke and the target - hard outer shell of coconut was a wreck.... I was confused.., what did I shoot...? a fire arm...?... well this was my first impression and I was very happy....

But as I shot 100th pellet... all my happiness was gone... when u compare it with IHP in terms of performance, ITS NOTHING. I am very disappointed with its performance. Though I am not an experience shooter... I could figure out... Its not a really good performing gun.

Even after 200 shots it is still smoking heavily and producing lot of noise. Power is also not so good. I did several my own kind ofexperiments for power test. I took 4MM thick aluminum plate and shot it with IHP in point blank range. IHP burred a very clean hole in 3 shots which were shot to the same spot and AIMCO`s M200 took 8 shots to do the same.

I took an empty perfume can placed at the distance of 8 mtrs and shot it with IHP it made entry and exit holes very clean and chipped a bit of plastering in the rear wall but pellet shot from M200 was bounced back and hit my stomach  I was really disappointed with its performance

I even tested for accuracy and it is some what ok as it has got peep sight...
But these tests really increased my respect towards IHP.... If IHP changes its look and feel, it can still more increase its sales.... (my opinion). I was thinking of interchanging the stocks of these two air guns but I do not have any expertise to do that. Guys if any body can help I ll be really great full....

Over all M200 is like Beauty without Brains :x But still I like to order M150 from AIMCO.

Guys if any body can help me to solve this dieseling and power problems with my M200.... I ll be really great full..

Sorry If I have bored you... with bad explanation.... any how i ll post the pics soon...

Regards,
Krishna.

Congrats for your new toy!
The power will settle down less than what you are getting now after you will finish few tins.

Nice review! Keep posting more.

hi tirths ,
I have earlier read your post that are very much informative , Kindly tell us why Indian springer other than IHP are not that much powerfull .Like kitty exprienced low power with AIMCO 200 or what so ever. Triths tell me these guns are not properly machined(are there cylinders not properly honed from inside) or there leather seals are poor or spring is of low tention,
what is the reason behind that.
and how can kitty increase its power (FPS).
I think you can guide all of us.
bye

There is one gun called CANNON65 is very powerful.
Power comes from magic relationship between Swept volume, tensile strength of spring, friction, air transfer port, Force etc etc. More you can read about Steve Vissage http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/archive/ ... chive.html

Regarding indian airgun,
1. most manufacturer using readymade steel tube therefore inside the cylinder will be uneven and therefore you can expect air leakage.
2. The spring they are using mostly "Grade II" spring steel and therefore it will set fully after few hundred shot.
3. The piston weight they are using have based on no calculation with the spring force. Usually they are overweight.

The initial power what you get from the brand new gun usually not it's original power. They put excess oil which gets blast inside the receiver by which you get the bang! and smashing energy.

--End--

HI tirths please tell me how can I increase the performance of my MOD 200 of AIMCO. For now please tell me how can I lower the dieseling of this AirGun. Over all I shot 400 pellets from this gun. As you said it settled to its lower power :x . I have another local made air gun which "was" really much power full than M200. Now I need to change the main spring and piston seal for It. Is it possible for ameture air gunners like me...? Is there any instruction available....? I read some where that It requires car jack, C clamps and all. I have all those things.
Here in Bangalore we have a very good gunsmith (KOVI SHOP) but as they are shifting to other location, they are not taking any repair works now. As this is a festive week end and the gun is old with lot of air leakage and bad performence, I like to experiment with this old gun. Please suggest.

Krishna

The air rifle you are talking about is not manufactureed bu aimco I think it is made in kolkata and name of the company is 'commando'. I also have same model. You can see my post in photo albums named My first air rifle. I don't have IHP so could not comparee performance.

Sorry Kitty, Unless I know the gun well, it would be difficult for me to suggest you. May be Rustom or TenX can help.

can some one compare M200 with M300 under lever? Does M300 also have the same problem of losing power gradually?
