just acquired a new rifle lets see how many of you can identify it.

Almost looks like a very pimped up BSA .22...or maybe a cousin of the W&S rifle that appeared on another thread?

The bolt handle looks swept back post market.

The original piece was probably British . A single shot, London Small Arms .22 LR perhaps ?

Does it say Peerless Arms on the recoil pad (yet again) ?

A .22 rimfire with a fugly locally made stock.What wood is it? Mango?

It is a BSA Sportsman 5 .22 rifle with a new stock.Or the same model retailed by Webley & Scott under their name.

cottage cheese not only is the bolt swept back later even the bolt handle was made new as it had a very small bolt. no doc it was not peerless this time around.
and mr pooh its not mango ..... would bamboo or guava make sense

its actually a FNC belgium made 22 lr which looked like this before:

got it done up later with a new bolt handle a new stock and a new trigger guard

I could be wrong,but,I am still inclined to think this Belgian rifle is based on a BSA rifle.

Nothing wrong in restoring,if done well, as you will be rendering a tired tool into something more aesthetically pleasing and extending its life.

Who did it and how much was the money spent on the rifle and the modifications ? I think that the new stock would "fit" you much better now . The stock grain seems very similar to your uncle's .315 rifle.

I think if you have used compact grain tahli(sheesham) wood ,it would have been far better looking you should have preffered matt(satin) finish .
some material needed to be removed from pistol grip to accmodate hand in better way &there should be
some drop at heel (I think you have made parllel comb).

totally agree with you vikram something pleasing to the eye is always better than the ugly duckling lol.
hi doc it was done by a local gunsmith and yes the rifle fits much better now. the total cost of the work was around 5000 rupees.
jaz i wanted a matt finish only therefore am getting it stripped of its gloss finish and getting it finished again with a matt finish soon .....and yes the wood is tahli (more precisely nepali tahli) it is a parellel comb stock as i got it copied from my BSA majestic 30 06 stock which is also a parellel one ....... will take your advice on the removal of material from the pistol grip

Also, in addition to the new furniture , what all "jobs" did that Rs. 5000/- include ? Can you make a lil list for us?
