How many times can one import airguns from abroad?
Hello Friends,
Can anybody tell me, how many times can an individual import an air gun from abroad?
Is there any document that states so?
Regards,
Deepak Varde

Re: How many times can one import airguns from abroad?
I guess. I have an answer to my question. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Since there is no record on how many guns one imports. There is no tracing or count keeping which any official does. Besides I havent come up to any document which states that there is a restriction on number of imports that one can do.
However, the only limiting factor is the size of your pocket. Also, it shouldnt be so obvious to the officials clearing the weapon that they recognise you every time you meet them and wonder whether you are doing this for personal or commercial use.
Edited by Mod -- We dont support any actions that circumvent laws least of all trying to find out customs policy on their officer rotation. Also keep in mind its after lot of struggle that import of airguns was allowed we should be careful not to abuse it or support others who want to. In future be careful about your posts this is an open forum, remember anti groups also visit this board, consider your self warned

I had once gone to Mumbai costoms office and asked the officer how many times can one import airgun or how many airgun can I import from abroad , he answered that " we write the name of the person who has imported the airgun once , one person can import anly one airgun in his life " . so I asked him, what if I am a shooting club member and have imported airgun earlier and if my gun has got damaged and need to import another for practice ? He answered "whatever may be the reasons only one can be imported " . then I asked what if I play both the events "rifle and pistol " . he answered " then you can bring one rifle and one pistol .I dint wanted to arguve with him . but there is nothing written about restriction on number of airgun import in the gazette .

As long as they don't look like a commercial import you can import as many.vikrant wrote:I had once gone to Mumbai costoms office and asked the officer how many times can one import airgun or how many airgun can I import from abroad , he answered that " we write the name of the person who has imported the airgun once , one person can import anly one airgun in his life " . so I asked him, what if I am a shooting club member and have imported airgun earlier and if my gun has got damaged and need to import another for practice ? Well the postal customs at Delhi maintains meticulous files on every airgun imported and who the importer was. So as far as not having records goes it is humbug. Do not try to corrupt a good practice by the GOI. There are a lot of serious competition shooters who struggle for years to import a match air rifle or pistol, so please show some decency and don't do anything stupid to get the law repealed due to some greedy hog trying to buy every airgun that he can afford/or trying to make a quick buck out of it.

I guess a legal and rule compliant answer would be at least one per family member in your family.
We have some strange rules around the numbers of semi-auto weapons a person can own. So legally it is that number x number of persons in the family, and the law interprets it as that. YMMV

Guys,
Even if we in this forum keep writing about honouring the GOI's practice, there are dozens of C&F agents who clear these guns at a price. How do we put sense in these people?
Because we want to be true and do not believe in bribing, dosent mean a lot of others think that way. Not talking about a practice that is seen is like the ostrich syndrome.
While I had to visit the customs office a number of times looking for different notifications on the net, there were many who finished in less than half n hour. Same guys met me outside and said the agent managed everything. These guys werent even from a rifle club!!!
While some states keep records of imported guns (as understood from dev), mumbai foreign postal customs does not. This is as stated by one of the inspectors.
Coming to my question about the number of imports, so far, I havent come accross any document that states the number of times one can import an air gun.
What we are seeing (even in this blog) is different interpretations of officials and gut feel of persons.
I hope you agree.
Regards,
Deepak

I do indeed. There are no laws as such, so it all falls in foggy skies, i'm afraid.deepakvarde wrote:

Re: How many times can one import airguns from abroad?
Dear Vikram,
About a month ago, I knew nothing about importing guns. This site has been very informative and the forumites have been very very supportive.
During that phase, I was wondering whether to call for 2 guns or 1. And didnt know whether there were limitations or not. Hence I post the question to which nobody answered.
Then I found out somethings and saw that the post is still unanswered. Considering that if someone else too stumbles with this question. He/she would have some idea.
Thats it. Nothing else intended.
Regards,
Deepak
