Need help on NOC from Police
I was told by the supritendent of postal customs that there is a notification which states that .177 calibre air rifles do not need NOC from the police and that, I should find out more about it, get a copy of the same, and free my rifle.
Fellow forumites, please guide me on this. Is there any notification of this sort? if yes, how do I get a copy of the same?
Regards,
Deepak

1. confirming the good they are letting them in based on guidelines made by DGFT (dept of finance)
2. Collecting duty based on guidelines made by dept. of commerce.
Think logically, you will get your answer.

Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Re: Need help on NOC from Police
Dear Tirths & fantumfan,
I spend over 4 hrs there having all the documents with me including the ones fantumfan has posted. Showed my rifle association letter, invoice ... everything. Even showed him .177 written on the barrel. I added that I have got some .177 pellets with me and I could put it in and show you. Nothing else would go in that muzzel except the lead pellet. A pellet is different from a .32 catridge.
He tells me, he has no authority to determine whether it is .177 or anything else. A police NOC or equavalent is required to release the rifle. I asked him what am I to do next? then he made a few calls here and there. Then tells me that he has been informed that there is some notification which says that .177 calibre air rifle dosent need police verification. I should get him a copy of that notification and he'll release it.
Next, He tells me to check with my rifle association for the notification. I called them. Our guy there is good for nothing. He tells me, if there is any notification, they should have it more than the association.
I've called a GAMO Whisper .177 rifle from Natchez. And it looked damn pretty. I felt even bad when I saw her and couldnt get her home today.

Deepak

Deepak, there is no notification as such.deepakvarde wrote:Dear Tirths & fantumfan,

And the he is right. He is not authrized to confirm that it is indeed an airgun with said caliber. You have two way to go now. Get all necessary document printed about whisper. Picture, specs, invoice, pricetag also Natchez link and if possible print the online page. Write an application based on notification and submit them on the table as well as speed post.
Second option could be, have your gun verified by police personal. But stick to the first one. Wishper may fail deal wood test so better not to get it verified by forensic
Good Luck!

Re: Need help on NOC from Police
Dear Tirths,
They have a pc in their office which has internet connectivity. One of his officers checked the price, natches website etc. I showed it to him myself. This officer was very friendly and said that if his boss (the person causing trouble) wouldnt be there, he would have cleared it by seeing the letter from rifle association.
I think, I'll take your advice on the first option. I was a bit hesitant on the police NOC for the deal wood test as this baby boasts of 1200 fps.

Deepak

Deepak....even though I do not have any experience importing air rifles...yet, I advise you to be patient and put things across to the babus in a very polite and meaningful manner.....it may take several visits to them...better...you will learn....meet more people...what they are asking for does not seem to be too unreasonable...if there is no way out then do try taking a cop over to this place to confirm that it is not a firearm...(but not before atleast another senior/experienced airgunner on this forum advises you on this) ...eventually you will get the rifle...it is only a matter of time.....

Re: Need help on NOC from Police
Thank you pkjeetesh,
Your message is indeed consoling, but after having seen the gun out of the box and touching it, my patience levels are just spurting out. I hope you understand what I am saying. I visited 3 police stations in and around the APSO requesting them to just come and confirm that its an air rifle and not a 3006 or similar which needs live rounds.
All of them used the hindi movie technique of "that is not in our jurisdication" go to that (next) police station, they'll surely be able to help.
So ..... this is where I am.
Regards,
Deepak

Re: Need help on NOC from Police
The simple solution is this. Take a copy of the .177 import notification you have, go to your local police station and request the officer in charge to acknowledge it with a stamp. He will write a note saying that the .177 can be brought in. Ensure that it is stamped. Might ask you for a few hundred bucks. Be ready to deal with that. This should let your baby in.

Friends,
I've got a copy of the so called NOC with these people tend to accept. It actually is the letter from the Commissioner's office stating that, .177 calibre dosent require a lisence.
If anybody wants a copy I could mail one.
Regards,
Deepak
