Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Rusty also mentioned Safety catch failures.
I have come across this on old worn out Brno's as well.
In such failures, most often the gun fires when the safety catch is disengaged and not when the safety is being engaged.
Why does this happen?
- A couple of possible reasons:
Do bear in mind that engaging the safety catch draws back the striker/pin a wee bit further beyond the cocked-sear engaged position- This means the striker is tensioned against the main spring a little more than normal. When you dis engage the safety catch, it snaps back, sometimes with enough force to override the sear engagement.
With the Brno(thus IOF) design, the notch on the striker/pin where the sear engages is quite small, shallow and angled. While this facilitates finer trigger/sear/striker interaction, it also leaves very little allowance for wear and tear. If any of the interfacing parts develop wear or play, the chances are the notch will lack enough depth to ensure a positive engagement...and thus slip.
The sear face can get rounded off over time and result in the striker notch slipping off.
Another possible cause could be a poorly aligned safety catch or one that has play. Notice the vertical thickness of the safety notch is pretty small on the IOF... almost looks like the upper lug of the striker can slip under it.
Hope this helps.

cc

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Hi,
Came back to Ahmedabad ( where my family lives) from trip on sunday evening,
Due to legal issues I had to left rifle at Madhya Pradesh( Business place since last 100 years). (Babu's can interpret laws in any direction )
Never had a chance to test fire it or take any pic. Things got postponed as I had to apply Home Dept. for all india valifdation for additional weapon.
Thank for your suggetions and time

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
thanks to all for great info. I going to buy 22.lr for my wife soon. Not sure which one yet. Please help me to clear few questions
1. I'm in Himachal. Can I buy rifle from dealer in Delhi? As I learned that would be better to have an option to select from few rifles rather then order direct from factory and waiting for a surprise.
2. I do not care about look of the rifle so much (unless it is falling apart), but I'm buying this rifle to start training for competitions, so accuracy is a most important issue. In this regards my idea is to change sights, front and rear on peep sight. Can it be done in Delhi by some gunsmith. If so, any suggestion by whom.
3. I do not need a mag at all. Does some other single shot rifles are available, which can be used for initial training. What about rim fire. Is there any semi accurate ones?
thanks again !
great board !
I'm very happy that found it !

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
hi Subal das,
lucky your having a wife waitting for rifle
With all respect to your requirement, budget is big criteria here,
Though I haven't fired any shot from my newly purchassed IOF .22 rifle, but rate of rifling twist ( in this case its 1 : 200 mm) seems no good for you unless you use imported ammo. Subsonic ammo dont like high twist rate, if budget permits better go for decent imported rifle ( though they costs a lot now a days)
regards
pritam

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
That may be the case in theory (a heavier bullet would also help) but in practice the IOF's rate of twist is doing a good job of stabilising a 40 grain bullet at standard velocity (upto 1095 fps). Some rifles (even from the same manufacturer) can be very finicky about which cartridges they shoot well, so one would need to experiment with various makes before settling on one. Once you find the right cartridge buy as many as possible. If your ammo quota does not permit a large quantity, ask the gunshop owner if he can keep the ammo on the shop's licence for you.PRITAM PATEL wrote:Subsonic ammo dont like high twist rate

Hi Mack The Knife,
I belive you have done more experiments with IOF .22, and diff. brands of ammo.
Have you ever measured muzzel velosity for K.F. .22 LR cartridges, figures would be helpful to ppl like me.
regards
Pritam

Hi Pritam,
Since KF rounds do not feed from the magazine in my rifle I haven't bothered to chrono them as I do not use them.
If I can lay my hands on a few, I will chrono them for you.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
i looked through the chain for a suitable scope for the .22lr (seems like getting a licence for this is easier than the rest)
i am coming to india in August, thought of getting scope with me. is it worth the effort (possible hassle at customs) of getting a scope for the .22lr? i saw the following suggested as good scopes for this without having to remove the rear sight -
Norcinia 3-9X32
Simmons 4x32
Any other suggestion from the members here? I dont want to remove the rear sight, so the scope has to be high enough.
Thanks.

MM
Getting a license is entirely a different process and is exclusive from bore or caliber. Its for a rifle be it .22 or 30-06. You should research this site and look up earlier recommendations for scopes.
Getting a scope in baggage is fine . Experienced members can better advise you on which of the two scopes is better.
Cheers

Get a scope by all means... only scope (sans rifle) in baggage should be no problem at all

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
ok, after a little bit of research and a talk with the person at the local gun range, seems like a 4X fixed scope will do the job just fine, for a greenhorn like me.
a quick question for the gurus here -
1. Will there be any drilling and tapping required on the .22 rifle to fit the mounts?
2. Are there any rifle dimensions i need to be aware of? I am referring to the min/max distances between the mounts that can be accomodated on the iof .22lr? what about the height of the rear sight?
Seems like Leupold FX1 4X is a good scope for a rimfire .22 , please correct me if i am wrong.

Generally speaking the IOF .22 Rifle is simple a crude piracy of the Brno Mod 2.metermanja wrote:ok, after a little bit of research and a talk with the person at the local gun range, seems like a 4X fixed scope will do the job just fine, for a greenhorn like me.

As such accessories that go for a Cz452 (The Brno's current Avatar) should be reasonably appropriate for an IOF .22
The IOF rear sights seem to be a bit blocky and as such may be a bit high... it might interfere with a low mounted large objective scope.
I don't believe any drilling or tapping is required for mounting of a scope as the dovetailed rails are integral to the upper receiver.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Dear Friend,
I have fitted two differant scopes to my .22 LR,(IOF) One at a time.
One with 32 objectiveand the other with 40 . It was no problem with 2 pc. High mounts (Accushot)
The objectives clear the rear sight easily For the 40 objective scope, it is a bit tricky, as you have to adjust the scope, so that the flare does not foul with the rear sight. the scope, over shoots the rear sight by about 2 inches to fit.Working of the bolt is also easy.
Regards
Prabir.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
I think IHP should be given the contract to manufacture .22 lr rifle the finish would be much better................
Also if IOF can make different models of .22 rifle like a short barrel version (carbine) and the Mannlicher stock (full stock) but using better quality wood ...................I know wallnut is difficult but at least they can use the wood which is used in IHP Airrifles......also I forgot to mention the foresight..........I dont think improving on foresight would increase the manufacturing cost
