Re: How to measure draw lenght?
Hi Inder,
Here is a link that has some info regarding draw length...
http://www.huntersfriend.com/draw-length-weight.htm
I have seen similar numbers in other places as well. It seems to work for me atleast.
Pls remember to get arrows that are atleast 2-3 inches longer than the draw length of the bow.
Draw weight: You would need atleast 25lbs draw weight to enjoy shooting. If I had the chance to buy multiple bows, i would buy one 25lbs and one 30lbs bow(recurve). If i had to buy just one, then i would surely get a 30lbs one. It would take a little time to get used to the bow(the 30lbs one i used was longer than me) but its worth all the effort.

Re: How to measure draw lenght?
Thanks Parag,
Link is quite informative, will measure my draw length today.
As per the link my draw weight (For compund) should come to 55-65lbs. How much do you think it will be for recurve? I understand recurves are more tough to pull than compund or the diference is just for holding the arrow at full draw length?
Thanks once again

Re: How to measure draw lenght?
The compound bow will have a 60-75% reduction in force at max draw length. So if you are using a 40lbs bow at max draw length you will be pulling only 10lbs(75% let off). This will help you in aiming. whereas in a recurve you will be pulling the max draw weight at all times(thus tougher).
I have been using a 40lbs for a few years now. I can shoot accurately with the target board at about 30-40m. I havent used a recurve bow with a draw weight > 40lbs(which itself was very difficult). IMHO a draw weight of around 35-40lbs is enough.

Parag

Re: How to measure draw lenght?
You can measure you draw length by following the the procedure below.
1. stand erect and take a arrow or any pipe.
2. place it in the middle of the Chest (sternum)
3. extend both your hands equally with your palms open along the pipe or arrow .
4. the point at the edge of the fingers are to be marked and measured to know your correct draw length.
5. you can have 1or 2 inches extra from the marked point to be on safer side.
