help me choose an extremely powerful air rifle in .22

Post by theairgunsniper » Thu Jul 02, 2009 5:54 pm

hi to all ...
i live in north east (assam)... i visit IFG Airgun sec daily... ifg has got the most accurate knowledge about guns .. i am very thankful to them for sharing their knowledge to us..
i brought an air rifle .22 caliber i week ago some local brand calcutta made..i asked for ihp but they said they dont deal ihp its a good looking rifle. and as i read here on ifg that gsmith pellets are good i brought 500 of them(Rs 100 per tin) which they took 500 rs from me that means Rs 1 for i pellet which i think is very high price.. i brought 2 tins of high speed, 2 tins of high force, and 1 tin of high impact... they didn't allow me to test the gun in their shop.. later when i came home .. i tried the pellets.. they were very tight fitted on that gun.. so i tried some local .22 pellets.(Rs 40 for 100) they were tight too.. so i had to use a file on each pellet.. after using the file the pellets were fitted nicely.. but the power of that rifle is shit..(i think it delivers pellets at 200-250 fps) i tried some of the pellets on beer bottles from 5-7 metres.. but the power is insufficeant to break the bottles.. also tried them on different objects such as deodrant cans from 10 metres but it could not pierce any one of them.. i spended rs 5000 for the gun which i used to save from 1 month and at last i have a rifle which i think is a toy for babies nothing more than that......
now i want to buy some good quality air rifle in .22 which is capable of breaking bottles from 100 yards.. iwant one extremely powerful air rifle... springer or pcp i can spend upto 50,000 i m thinking of benjamin discovery .22 which is a good gun for its price.. my dad came from singapore 3 days ago.. i thought of telling him to bring one for me from there.. but again i thought about customs .. i also thought once to import it through pyramydair.. but i was not sure about getting it delivered here....
so guys show me one way to get a good powerful accurate air rifle..it will be good if i get one benjamin discovery in pcp or a powerful springer like diana or air arms TX200 HC with scope within 50,000rs
thanks..

Man, the pellets must fit snugly else the air pressure can't work fully. I have a .22 Aimco MOD 200 that literally creates dust out of beer bottles from a 50 ft distance i.e. the length of one of my terraces. Use the double-headed ones from United Shots; I believe you won't have anything to complaint about. Besides, u may also dip the pellets in gun oil (take a plastic can, put all the pellets in and pour 5 ml of the oil in it); that way, you'll lubricate inside the barrel and make the pellets confront less resistance. Happy Shooting.

Or if you can, go for the Logun S-16 or the Eun-Jin 6 shot repeater. The repeater has an extra-deep rotary mag that can house almost all pellets, including the Logun Penetrator .177 and the lead-free plastic-skirt ones.

So all you need is extreamely powerful huh ? and no need of accuracy ? How about a rifle which fires at 1500 fps but never shots on target ?

There are lots of manufacturer in kolkata who makes decent air rifle with moderate power and accuracy, Aimco is one of them also I can remember Tommy, SDB and ESA are pretty good in compare to thir prices but certainly much less than 5000. May I know the dealer name from where you purchased it ? is it N.C Daw in Dalhousie Area ? We have a member here who is a gun dealer himself in kolkata and also has a website of his own. you can even purchase IHP model from his website online at a much cheaper price than what you have paid. Some of the members here already availed his service and they are pretty satisfied with the deal.

50K is a decent budget and you can get imported rifle at this price. You can directly import them of your own (There is lots of discussion how to do that in this forum) or you can buy it someone who have it and willing to sell in india. I know a person in kolkata who used to deal with Brand New RWS and Diana but charges pretty high prices for it . if you want I can provide you his contact number may be you can check with him if you have enough money to burn and dont want to go for any hassels.

Springer are easy to maintain than PCP and Pneumatic ones, so stick to a springer if you really not looking for something perticuler. HW or Diana can be your best bet here as they are the most soughted and populer make in India.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Welcome to IFG.As Saptarshi and Rottlord said, power is not the only criterion to look for in an air rifle. With your budget I would look for something like a Weihrauch 77/97K or Airarms TX-200hc etc.Well made and very accurate.May I suggest you do a bit more research on what makes an air gun a good one.

Check this link

http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2315

Gives a lot of info on importing.Just remember that in India, if an air rifle fails the deal wood test,it requires a license.

Best-
Vikram

Normally any local air rifle also long as its a .22 will shoot the neck off a beer bottle or puncture at least one side of a can (beans or tin fish type). Try fixing a nail to a cork and using the nail to push the pellet in for a better fit. Another problem is that a gsmith .22 pellet is far heavier than what a lot of spring air guns can handle. Try switching to master shot, they are great for the IHP model 35 and may just work well in your rifle. Do not lube the pellets cause if any lube leaks into the chamber area you will get detonations which will further harm the rifle.

Experiment with master shot pellets and shoot your rifle for a while. Also try changing to a national model 35 spring, which might just help, also check if your barrel has rifling. If everything fails then register with the Guwahati Rifle range, get a membership card and then try to import an air rifle.

Dev

I'm lubing the pellets for over a year now, Dev and I shoot at least 20 of them everyday; so far I detected no harm. But yes, definitely a lot of smoke.

Rottlord,

His name is Debananda Dutta , he is a shooter himself also owns a gunshop named Cobra Precessions in Central Kolkata.. He often deals with brand new Diana .22 caliber rifles dont know how he managed to get them but few peoples took from him and they are satisfied with the rifles though prices are pretty much on the higher side. I am not sure if he deals with any CO2 model or any other makes now . Since I am out of this country for a long time no idea about his present scenerio. if you want I can provide you his contact details and you can check yourself.

Hi,

What kind of rifle are you using? If you are getting a lot of smoke from a springer then it may be mild detonations or dieseling which will harm your rifle in the long run.

Enough smoke to catch the eye and a lot of people in the surrounding thinks it to be an original rifle. I use the Aimco .22 break barrel (MOD 200) and yes, it's a springer.

there is only one answer------ Diana 54 Air King..

thatsall..
Irrespective of the direction of the wind, the smoke from the cigarette will always tend to go to the non-smoker.
