Thanks for the tips. I will probably give them a call give them the tracking number and ask for status.
You've "Been there, Done that......"
I respect that......

M.
Well, the usps tracking number is not valid for customs but for postal. If you can get postal dept no. you can check with them and seek for "internal" number and after call customs.

tirths,
the tracking nos we use for usps priority mail tracking is also the customs receipt nos also known as label nos. for usps package, that is the only way to trace the package back to the origin country aswell the destination country/the postal custom fellow will ask for this number only .the postal customs works independently as they are central govt ruled body but with coordination to the postal system as well so they are postal customs and not known as only 'customs' as present in the airport ,airport clearance for dhl or fedex parcels are cleared by the customs directly.
the nos for mumbai postal customs is-02226156152

Sanjiv is right, I was in the same situation sometime back. After seeing no tracking updates for a week I called the postal customs number and gave them the tracking number, they looked it up and told me that they were charging Rs.____ duty on the package and asked me if I wanted to pay it. I told them yes and they released the package and a few days later the postman delivered it and collected the duty. Good luck, hope you get your package soon!

Best,
Ram

I asked a friend in the area to make enquiries. He was told that the parcel has landed in Delhi and will be in Mumbai FPO in a weeks time. Why is that so ? coz all parcels of USPS first land in Delhi he was told.
I suppose thats what we saw in the USPS updates (the ins and outs) on Sanjiv's post.

All,

Its here with me at home. 11am to 4pm at FPO Mumbai was well worth the effort. Lots of running around on all four floors but I got her out. The procedure is long and time consuming but nothing complicated as long as you have all the documents.

Pictures in a few minutes.

Here is my first import story.

The parcel by USPS went to Delhi. I called the Mumbai FPO and they told me to come over and will help me find it.

The Parcel was eventually found. There was some hickup at their end with their internal despatch numbers.

I was advised to see the Customs people and be sure with them of the required docs.
On seeing them I was asked to bring Letter from Club that I am a current member. When I wen to them with all the docs.
They asked me if I had any certificate of participation in a match. I told them I had just started and had not participated in any major matches. They asked me what was my score in the internal matches so far which I told them. Which they accepted.

I told them I wanted to take her with me they said it was possible but would have to pay 5.5% octroi.
I had to spend 11am to 4 pm in their offices but was finally out with her.

It was time consuming but all the staff was friendly and helpful.

I will gladly import again.

Dear Friends,

I am from Bangalore and a great fan of guns jut like you and i need a small help. I asked my friend in U.S who is coming next week to get me a IZH 46M (.177) target Pistol. Thought the said pistol is shipped to his address is U.S , he got scarred at the last moment and the only option available to me now is to get it via USPS/Fedex. I rushed to KSRA to get membership form and I understand that it will take atleast 2 to 3 months to get the membership and my friend has to ship it by this saturday.

I was wondering whether anyone in this forum who is a member of KSRA can help me in importing the izzy on his name ( I will give my adress or otherwise according to your preference). If there is any angel here please call me on ************** or PM me as soon as you can.

Thanks,
Raju

Raju,
Just in case your angel does not turn up. :?
Import the gun by courier anyway, pay the import fee and have it released.

It is very much possible.
If you do not have a membership the customs will insist that you pay a duty to have your gun released.

And which rule made you confirm that?
