Well, you need to report the loss ASAP! There will be inevitable gauntlet of questioning by the cops, as they are usually liable to presume that you sold your gun on the black market! The fact that selling your gun in the black market would only get you a small fraction of it's legal value is of no consequence to them

Yes, you will also most likely face additional hurdles while applying for an arms license in future...

Cheers!

Friends i have question to ask , are the guns insured here in India ? if so at what price are they insured at as the prices in India are crazy .

Mods : If i have asked this in the wrong place , i would request the you to either move this post or delete the same. tried looking for the topic but the search came up with insurance paid for air guns being imported via courier .

Assuming that i have a licensed gun and it was stolen, apart from the police misery.......Does my gun license get automatically terminated either because the police did it or because the only gun for which i have been allotted an arms license was stolen? would i need to apply for a fresh new license if i plan to purchase a similar make?

One of the nationalized insurance companies (United or National insurance) have a policy which entitles you for insurance against loss of weapon as well as any possible damage due to use of your weapon. However, even if you pay 4 lacs for a sub nose revolver you will get a receipt for 10-15 K and thats what the insurance company will use to value the weapon.

Well the policy will suit to people who buy guns from IOF, where they get receipt for actual amount paid.

Actually if your gun is stolen, and the cops do establish as an actual robbery... it is not really held against you.
Morever you could get another weapon. That has been my experience, at where an uncle of mine had his Luger stolen for his home, while he was on vacation. (War bring back... yes WWII)
He didnt get another Luger... but did get another pistol. I forget what it was.
Then again this was about twenty years ago.

Dear All
I have a Rifle and a DBBL12 bore shot gun. These are kept at my residence. Both have a wooden case / box with a lock. They were used earlier for hunting. As these are virtually of no help for self defence, I keep the Rifle and the Bolt at separate locations. Similarly I keep the forearm (wooden piece fitted below the barrels) separately from butt and the barrels.

This was what I thought to be safer practice in case the rifle / gun is stolen. I have also insured my weapons.
For insurance you have to declare the value, which should be the present market value. No receipt is required incase of a loss. Only valid licence is required to proove your ownership. The claim will be settled on the basis of your declared sum insured and market price. The nearer the sum insured to market price the better.

If you are not using ur firearms please grease them put them in a plastic bag and deposit them at the police station or alternatively deposit the same in safe custody with a arms dealer. Its a better choce than planning what to do in case they get stolen..

dear sir, i lost a part of my gun as it is accidently fallen in the well of the dam. that dam, i have taken on lease for fisheries. I had made desperate attempts for the search of that part with the help of local divers but all in vain. i had already reported about the incident to the local police station in writing and taken the acknowledgment. now the question arise that can i get the duplicate part of the 12 bore gun of Shaktiman company ? or i have to surrender or sell the gun with the permission of collector and puchase a new one. Please inform about the option left for me.

Loss of minor parts of the gun do not require police complaint etc. You do not have to surrender or sell the gun, just get that spare part or get the gun fixed from gunsmith.
