I have been lucky to possess one of these beauties. . Mine is a 6.5x54, a take down sporting model with about 24" barrel (60cm) build in 1927 Feb (4 1 2.27) as per the coding on the rifle barrel. This particular rifle, has a two leaf folding rear sight along with a spring loaded pop up receiver sight on top of a pistol grip. This was something I dreamed of from my early school days and one fine day in 1991, there it was , lying in pristine condition with one Mumbai dealer. Looked like it was god sent for me. No one was interested in it as its ammo was a big problem. The dealer too believed for once he had made a bad investment.Well I have managed to over come the ammo problem with my connection in the shooting fraternity. I have shot it only on target till date but it's dead on killer, especially with RWS ammo. I am also eying a 30-06 M&S rifle that belongs to a close friend built some time in the late 50s. This one is with a square bolt release button. Again in mint condition. This one I believe was picked up from Bangalore some time in 2001.

Nice rifle and calibre.The tang peep sight is something that I like a lot.Does it still have it's cleaning rod in the stock.

Yes Sir,
There is a 5 piece cleaning rod sitting in its Butt. It's a later addition though. Thanks to kind friend who parted with the original M&S rod he had removed before he sold his rifle. Usually the rods are 4 piece ones for the carbines. Seems I was lucky here as well.

My friend paid some where around Rs. 1,00,000/ for this M&S 30-06, way back in 90s. That too because of the close friendship I guess he had with the previous owner. In a way this guy who sold it didn't want it going to a complete stranger. Like wise I sold my engraved 375 H&H Magnum made by Churchill to a close friend for much less then what the market price was those days. The idea was to to be able to use it when ever I went there. Unfortunately He died a prematurely and the rifle was sold by his widow to some dealer unknown to me.

hey mehul,
i am also an enthusiast of the Mannlicher brand . i owned a 30.06 but had to part with it during the disturbed days in Punjab & i regret it till date , for a fact when i sold the rifle it was in mint condition. i came across my rifle after many years and tears welled up in my eyes on seeing the pitiable condition it was in. the present owner had broken the original stock ***EDITED*** and had misplaced the rear sight as well as the lever on the side which holds the bolt in place.

Well, I wouldn't know how this guy managed to break the stock and loose the sight but I surely know how he must have lost the bolt release lever. The pin that holds the bolt release lever and ejector in place in a M&S rifle is inserted from the bottom with its flattened end facing downwards which again is supported and held in its place by the rifle stock. If at all it was inserted from the top after dis assembly, as they usually are in other Mauser type rifles, it must have popped off while being jerked around by this jerk because this pin is not totally friction fitted in M&S rifles.

One would have hoped that someone setting up a website would know how to spell the name of his object of veneration. It's SCHOENAUER. Either with "Umlaut" O, or OE, which is the way Schoenauer spelled it, but never with both, as on the website. Just a bit of nitpicking. Cheers.

Goodness! The engraving really sets the mouth to watering, doesn't it? Even better than looking is handling and touching, which is unfortunately as far as I've gotten. But it was more than sufficient for making a believer out of me. Thanks for the pics!
