Re: Need anythin from UK?
It's not the number of scopes, but the type. I've heard that IR equipment, including the harmless 'IR Monoculars' are prohibited in India. Is this true? Anyway, if it's out of its box, it looks roughly similar to a normal rifle sight. Not sure if the boys in Mumbai would twig. Probably, in a scrimmage of other scopes, mounts and rings, it'd pass unoticed.

even if you get it by unfair means it would be illegal.

We are not allowed to see in the dark? What are they afraid we'll see? But no doubt it's all for our own good.

Imports of NV equipment is not allowed, but their possession is perfectly legal.

I can't imagine many desperados have been thwarted by a lack of silencers and I wonder how much of a crime wave would result from people being able to see in the dark. Doesn't this kind of paternalism get anyone else's goat?
Exactly, Mundaire. A Kafkaesque situation if ever there was one:)

Can’t find any document regarding legal possession of NV.
Can you provide some?

Re: Need anythin from UK?
There is no law/ rule prohibiting or regulating their possession - ergo they are legal to own.sitar wrote:Abhijit ji

Re: Need anythin from UK?
Sound moderators, commonly referred to as silencers can be legally possessed.
You seem to be quite confident that they are illegal to own.I would be interested in knowing on what basis you said that.

Re: Need anythin from UK?
And if you guys are in the dark concerning the illegality or otherwise of NV, just imagine how ignorant the police would be. In a real-time scenario, starting at Sitar's post above at 18.47, R-Dhillon has already sat for several hours in a police cell while we discuss the issue. Of course, in the real world, he would have been given a cup of coffee or something by now, and some biscuits perhaps.
Hope a senior officor arrives with the decisive document soon:) A day or so would be ok?

Can anyone clear up this legal point? Lucky R-Dhillon isn't relying on his fellow IFG members to spring him:) He's still down in the cells and he's finished all the digestive biscuits:)

Re: Need anythin from UK?
That's great, penpusher, but we were talking about the legality or otherwise of 'ownership'. Everyone knows you're not allowed to import them. Mundaire is of the opinion that possession is 'perfectly legal'. Any takers?
And assuming we're all up to speed with our reading, there's little advantage in swapping quotations from earlier posts, montage-style. Let's get our thinking caps on here, guys. Is ownership of NV either (a) legal
(b) illegal
or
(c)legal depending how rich you are

Re: Need anythin from UK?
Legal as long as the import is legal.Same as importing and owning anything else. You can own an imported car but if it has been imported by evading duty or under subterfuge it will be seized.
An NVD scope is not covered by the Arms Act or Rules. It does not require a license to own one.But you better be able to prove that you imported it legally.

It is not an opinion it is a fact subject to what I said earlier.sol wrote: Mundaire is of the opinion that possession is 'perfectly legal'.
