Which Airgun

Hello all, My sis is in the States for a few weeks and I would like her to get me a good airgun. I have a budget of about Rs. 20,000. Any advise in this regard would be much appreciated.

1) Spring-piston, single/multi stroke pneumatic, compressed air or CO2?

2) Open sights required or scope only rifle? The latter (scope and mounts) will add to the cost.

3) Any calibre preferences?

4) Will it be used for 10 metre shooting or plinking or both?

5) How much muzzle energy are you looking at?

6) What is the maximum you want to spend?

Hi Jonah,

As most probably, your sister will be bringing in other items also
and thereby crossing the Rs 25000/- Laxman Rekha your
net budget for the air gun roughly works out to $ 275
factoring the duty of 35%.

As a practical choice, you should examine the Gamo range of
air rifles; as in US anything else with acceptable/better
performance will be out of your budget.

Gamo Hunter 1250 Hurricane

Also get 2000 Nos of flat headed ( atleast not pointed) pellets . Better,
if your sister is not travelling alone, you may get lucky with 4000 Nos
of pellets i.e 2000 per adult.

Heck Mack The Knife do u have to get so technical? I am finding it difficult enough as it is with my limited knowledge of airguns. I have tried out a daisy 52 something and I like it very much. Dunno if it is within my budget though. Sujay your choice seems to be quite good. Not too costly also. Now my choice is between Daisy52, Gamo CFX and the IZhBaikal.
I am also trying to get a new Bowie as I lost mine in a Bamboo rafting accident.
Anybody like to make a decision for me?

Save up another 10 grand and get yourself a new HW77K or HW97K or HW80K or HW90 in India.

The 52 you refer to.... would that be a Diana 52?

There is always e-mail to discuss certain things that cannot be discussed here.....

Hello Mack The Knife

I think it was either a crossman or Daisy something with floating barrel and side lever. I liked it a lot. A bit bulky though. What do u think about these Gamo airguns?

There is no 52 model rifle from Diasy though they got a sling shot model B-52

Hi Jonah,

If you are referring to Diana 52, well first don't ask Mack The Knife, he doesn't say anything good about them;)

And second, it would add 4.5 Kg to the baggage - though through US you can get more weight in...(Though one has to see if it fits the baggage rules- if carried in a separate case- the sum of total dimension funda, or you have to remove the barrel from the stock to fit it in suitcase)

Maybe its easier and less hassle to buy one in india as Mack The Knife suggests....

Or bring in a Pistol...of course Air Pistol:)

HiJonah,
First fins out if you can buy airguns in NY, I read somewhere that even airguns are not allowed to be shipped to buyers in NY within US .
Secondly, it's your sister and not you. She has to first clear the NY customs and when they ask questions she should know the answers as to what weapon she is carrying and to top it all when she lands in India, she has to get past the Vultures sitting at our customs

So, keep these things in mind

So-so. The trigger is the worst thing about them. May not matter to you but I am very fussy about how my triggers operate.

Frankly, they are a waste of good money if you are only going to buy one air-rifle in a very long time. However, if you cannot exceed 20,000/-, then that is one of the possibilities.

Now that's a good suggestion! Get yourself a HW45 or the Beeman equivalent and if you don't like it, I'll buy it.

Been trying to lay my paws on one of these for some time now.

Kanwar I was talking about the Diana RSW52. Anyway I think it might be out of the question.
I have been seeing some models at Pyramid and Compasseo and have identified a Walther model that uses both lever and c02 http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=197 anyone would like to comment on this model?

Hi Jonah, I can personally attest (as a visitor) that NY and NJ are THE worst places in the world to try and buy a gun legally-Mehul had warned me in a post sometime ago-not that I disbelieved him, but they are very strict, most airgun wholesalers and dealers on the net MAY NOT even ship to these 2 states...
Check out the other places on your sister's itinerery...may be Mehul or Naren or other stateside members can advice you about how to do it with minimal grief?
