Barrels being the restricted Item one can't change them as and when required (one of my friend is looking for BRNO .22 barrel with no positive response yet), Pitted barrels are not good for precision shooting, as the groups will be wild.

My humble opinion only.

Many pitted barrels shoot just fine unless it is at the muzzle.They are difficult to clean though.
