Trying Metal coating on exposed Iron

Post by eternalme » Tue Feb 24, 2009 1:00 am

Hi,

I am trying to give metal coating to give blued/Grey appearance to some of the air guns to begin with (results to be shared later for others to try).
For this I need to have some quantity of Manganese Dioxide , can someone help me procure the salt ?

This is regarding a home made Parkerizing solution which is many times better than blueing and harder (I will be using zinc) as well.

also if someone knows about sand blasting units for sale/rent in UP, it will be a definite help.

Regards

Manganese dioxide is used as a pottery glaze, try a ceramic supply house.

Manganese dioxide is found in alkline cells also. Cut it open & scrape off black sticky substance. That is maganese dioxide.

What about Phosphoric Acid? Have you sourced it?

R,

I have sourced the acid and other things required along with it , but yes the manganese oxide source from you is wonderfully new ,though I don't know if it can be used as it is for the purpose.
