Re: Which airgun should I buy?
Panther31/34 with the straight stock hunting style in .177cal in my opinion is better. I found the gun to be evenly balanced and a dream to shoot at even 80m.On the other hand the 350magnum in same caliber is too powerful and difficult to shoot accurately. The 350mag would fail the deal wood test. That is for sure. At 5m it ripped through a 100mm thick telephone directory and dented a wooden board kept behind the book when we first tested the gun.The panther could manage up to the last few pages of the book.

Im not sure then Thirths...but assuming that I use an 8.9gr pointed head pellet and the gun shoots at 1100fps then it would be 23.92ftlbs...the 350 magnum is capable of shooting at that velocity....

Do gun makers say, what gr of pellet gives 1100 fps?pkjeetesh wrote:Im not sure then Thirths...but assuming that I use an 8.9gr pointed head pellet and the gun shoots at 1100fps then it would be 23.92ftlbs...the 350 magnum is capable of shooting at that velocity....

He he he. Frankly I don't know the answer. However I know .177 can penetrate more than .22. I have tried 20ftlb .177 on 1" pinewood. It traveled well inside and I have measured and it was little less than 1/4" But when I have shoot on 1/4" wood and passed through it.pkjeetesh wrote: good one thirths...im getting old...maybe i should learn to shut up more on this forum...yet,... one good quizzer that you have always been..irony is that Im not too sure that you know the answers yourself...
The idea here, even if a pellet pass through 1/2" wood that doesn't mean it can pass through 1" due to surface tension, friction..etc.

Forget the wood deal test. The Police and Customs blokes know the D350 is a magnum air rifle and the person who brings it will face trouble. Besides its a difficult gun to shoot. A D34 is a much better choice.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Law is certainly not person based!fantumfan2003 wrote:tirths

Re: Which airgun should I buy?
What is the standard wood (if any) for the deal-wood test? A lot depends on this factor. Some woods are harder, some are softer, a fresh block of wood would provide more resistance than a seasoned, dry block etc. etc.

I don't intend to hijack the good chaps thread.
Yes, Law should not be person based. But ask that to those who have brought in (personal baggage) a D350 or similar, without "knowing" someone in the P or C and I am sure you will hear a nice fireside tale or two. If you dont, give me a call, I definitely have one for you

Re: Which airgun should I buy?
the advertised velocity for 350mag .177cal is 1250fps with pba (performance ballistic alloy) pellets...old pine wood 1'' thick would be a sitting duck for this gun at 5m...this gun is being sold at a premium 65K in Hyderabad...I asked him why...he said ....because it is BANNED ?????...I leave the rest to your imagination...
