Need target for Airgun ??

Hey guys,

My National 35 model .177 caliber air rifle has been shipped by AIMCO and would soon reach here. It costed me Rs 3575 /- shipping charges extra.

I've found out about where the pellets are available.
But I'm confused about targets.
Mine is a flat in an apartment and no place nearby is so unoccupied where I could practice?
Should I use the roof .. Can I practice within my flat, .. I mean am I going to need a target for it ?? .. what kind ?? .. where to find the targets in Bangalore? .

This is my first venture and it is still some time before I join a range to take it further.

You can use a very good trap designed and "Patented" by our own Bangalore member sri diskaon.

Ideally you should not practice indoors with a National 35. if it hits a hard surface i will "rebound" and come back at you.

If you live in an apartment in a crowded city like bangalore, you might not be able to shoot outdoors as there is the danger of shooting passersby .

Rather than a target.. you need a pellet trap. I tried one out of necessity and full confidence in myself. It was a trial and I have never used the pellet trap again. If your even 1% not sure about what your doing .. then dont try this at home. In case you decide to make a pellet trap. do some Google search before you start. In case you decide to use my "design" please make a bigger version of it (atleast 2ftx2ft) to reduce chances of missing the target altogether.

Ideally, I highly recommend you join a Rifle Club and practice there.

I've got my national rifle yesterday from AIMCO .

Regarding shooting, I've thought of using a 2x2x2 carton stuffed with newspapers and possibly a wodden plank in the end.
It would be placed at the terrace and there would be a gap of 4 feet between the box and the wall at back side.I would practise in early morning.
Hope this works for now and I do have plans to join a Rifle range/club/association soon.
Would like to shoot a few questions as well:
Do they allow to practise with our own air rifles at the clubs?
Are real fire-arms (apart from airguns) also provided there for practice?
Where can I find the brass bruh to clean the gun?

Oh yes !! ... me and my roommate debated over a point.
I'd read here at some thread that shooting a pelletless airgun harms some part of it, spring I guess. While he said there's nothing like that and asked me the reasoning behind the point.
Can someone please explain what the truth is?

Shooting an air-gun without pellets is called as dry firing.Dry firing mostly affects the spring-piston airgun as these rely on a cushion of highly compressed air to stop the piston from slamming into the end of the compression chamber.If they don't have that air cushion, the seals are destroyed.so dont dry-fire your airgun.

If you are using a 2ft cube as a target, then i guess the chances of missing will be low.

1. how far away are you going to stand while shooting. try to get atleast 10 mtrs distace as thats the standard distance. anything nearer will be less challenging and in case you miss, the pellet will hit the wall behind and come back at you.
2. I am not a rifle club member, but i understand most clubs have their own guns for the members. TenX is an active member at KSRA, he could chip in some info here.
3. I have just bought a few meters of badminton guts and am making a pull through cleaning chord. If you are in bangalore, you can pick one up from me in a few days.

Hey guys,

I started today, with a session of 10 pellets.
AIMCO and DIANA pellets seem to have worked fine. But while closing the barrel back after placing pellets, many times the pellet came out partially and that portion of it got squeezed between the parts.
I believe that is because the muzzle end turns upward during closing the barrel, so the pellet at breech end slips out then. Perhaps I need to point the rifle further down towards the ground before starting to close back the barrel. Am I right?
And in the shooting stance I really felt the load on shoulder .. will eventually get in the habit I think.
Wanted to know one thing, the right hand supports the stock but should the right elbow lie free in air or rest on the body .. or does it depend on the person to take it as per his convenience?
I found that I couldn't stabilize the barrel properly, without taking support for right elbow.
Is it something that will mprove with time & practice?

Hi Veeru,
mayuri has targets to sell you can PM to her.
Wherever you Practice be very concerned about SAFETY of yourself & Others, You should also take care while disposing off the used pellets.
DON'T just throw them around 'cause kids could swallow or try to it, It could result in very serious Health problems.

Thanks for the information.
I had fired the pellets on a carton well stuffed 18 inches thick with newspaper and none of the pellets came through the carton. Distance was around 30 feet.

Guys I've read at places, about brass brushes being used to clean bore of the rifle (fire-arm/air). Can someone tell me where to find the brush and such things basic to rifle maintainence. Or is there a better way than brass brush?
