PB Airguns :?

Post by kanwar76 » Wed Jan 14, 2009 11:25 pm

Hi Guys,

Will a .45 air gun come under PB category even if it passes deal wood test? What you think same PB rule apply on airguns also?

To my knowledge any gun irrespective of calber passing the deal wood test is termed as airgun else firearm then again pb or npb comes into act if termed as firearm

Striker,

There is no bore that is prohibited. It is the cartridge that the firearm is capable of firing, that is the deciding factor.

pb is classified on bore /caliber as the license is endorsed depend on caliber of firearm in indian context.

Striker,

By this definition, all .450,9mm and .38 and 7.62 'bore' firearms are PB.

Where does this leave .380/9mmcarto/short,9mm Makarov aka 9x17, .38ACP ,.38 super,.38 special,.450 Adams / short,.30Tokarev,.38-55, 450/577,450 express...?

BTW,all of the above are NPB firearms.Confusing, huh?

Penpusher is correct, the criteria for classifying a firearm as PB is based on its (the firearm's) ability to chamber and fire service ammunition... this is irrespective of the bore dia.

Anyhow, any airgun which is shooting such large cal ammo would almost certainly fail the deal wood test and therefore fall within the ambit of the arms act. Hence, you cannot import it and if you get one locally it would entail all the associated legalities of purchasing a firearm.

Cheers!

Isnt the 7.62 round fired by many in 30-06 rifles ?

And by that criteria is the .308 rifle which is 7.62 Nato a PB rifle in India ? Not that I have haerd of anybody who owns a 308 in India, people have a 30-06 or 270 usually, but some American Hunters who came to India to hunt in late 50s do give accouts of bringing 308 with them for Deer and Antelope shooting ( Forest of the Night, J.D. Scott, Jaico publishing, 1959 )
