Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Anuvind,
When importing an airgun through courier, it is only the .177 that is allowed. Not that the place you are importing from is going to refuse to sell you a .22, it is the government of India that allows the import of airguns in .177 duty free for members of rifle clubs. Nothing as such is mentioned about the .22.

Finally, common sense prevailed. Delhi Postal Customs finally is clearing air guns in .177 cal coming via post without any duty of any sort.

You can purchase from a few online stores as some of them might not ship to India. Some of the ones that do ship are: Pyramydair.com, mac1airgun.com and airgunartisans.com/flyingdragon

Dear Friends,
I have imported one Beeman HW 77 MKII (carbine) by courier.
Baught from-Topairgun. contact person. Dirt E Harry.
Price -Offered a 5% discount on Pyramydair quoted price.
Very reliable and helpful.
Offered to check the gun prior to despatch. Sent chronograph results and target sheet to show groupings.(for a fee)
Papers needed:
1) Rifle club memebership letter.
2)Copy of Customs notification, regarding eligibility of R.C. members to import .177 air guns.
( Optional, but helpful
Prior to placing order, I had aproached Customs office,Kolkata forclarification. They had given a letter, confirming the Cus. notification and adding another notification, whwere in special exemption (Nil Duty) for import of air guns of .177 caliber is mentioned.)
3) a copy of this letter along with a copy of relevant notification.
I had come across these two notifications in IFG site, earlier, and
these motivated me to proceed for importing.
4) Statement of the credit card, to show amount paid.
I had sent these paers to Dirt E Harry by e mail, who was kind enough to get these printed and placed inside the package along with
the invoice and a copy of the website, showing the price advertised.
Courier -Fedex. Charges, US.$ 205 (Should have chosen USPS at US$ 100, 20 days)
The consignment reached New Delhi in 4 days. Had a call from fedex asking for Photo identity card of rifle club memebership, and passport for proof of address. Sent by e mail, cleared customs in a day.
From Delhi to Kolkata---12 days.
Reached my home in perfect shape, totally hassel free.
I would like to take this oppertunity to thank Mr. Mack the knife for his kind advise, on which gun to buy. Mr. Abhijeet singh for the IFG site, without which, I would never have tried the import option.
Regards.
Prabir.
