IOF ASHANI .32 pistol

last week one of my friends a police officer got his ashani from kolkatta, was really surprised to note the fit and finish of the pistol i mean considering the appearnace of other weapons like the revovlver, .22 rifle etc this appeares to be quite decent.
the firing experience was also good quite a tight operation no loose stuff as in earlier pistols.
only thing i noted is the spring in the slide was tight than the fn my other friend was carrying.
this guy had done a lot of research on available weapons as he himself was in the arms/licence department
good weapon i now agree that all those abusing the iof pistol are either dealers or owners of old weapons who want to dispose their antique weapns at a premium.

Congrats to your friend for the new pistol,Can you give us some more information that what is new in it?? if possible can you post pics of the new ashantil;.

thats gr8.. i am surprised to know that the appearance has been improved. but i still think the mechanism might be the same , same old problems of cartridge jamming and all are common with these pistols.

Either check your pistol or the ammo u are using,,because this problem is not common ,,if you say jamming once in a 50 shot or 100 shot is ok ,,but not every second shot..i have fired hundreds of Indian rounds but never faced major problem.

generally OCASSIONAL jamming is due to a faulty cartridge, REGULAR jamming is due to a faulty ejection mechanism,
please do the rollover test before filling the shells, ie. roll the shell on a smooth surface if the rolling is smmoth in one direction and no wavering to sides or a bumpy roll. then select the shell for feeding.
if the jamming is a regular feature the ejection mechanism has to be streamlined.

But in one of my cousin's Pistol the magazine is such that it puts a small dent and scratch on every shell. its a new one so he is planning to buy a new Magazine for it from a Dealer. I hope that works fine then. Most of the IOF products are such that when you buy them then definitely you have to make many changes in them to make them suitable to keep as none of the factory products are as per standards.

With respect, don't you think it's a bit of an over statement? May be some did face a lot of problems? Having said that,would it be possible for you to post a few pictures for us? Thank you.

one reason why a carts jam is the feed from the megs, which is one point people do not check.

mag related jams are actually the most common, however no one ever checks the mags.

Wont be too different from the FN Browning M1910.

1- Obviously, first thing is to make sure the damn thing is unloaded and rendered chamber safe.... magazine out should be even better.

2- Press the knurled bushing (The serrated collar that surrounds the muzzle area) inwards - You should be able to achieve it with a pinching action of your index and thumb.

3- While keeping it pressed Twist anti-clockwise (If the muzzle was oriented towards you) Caution- This piece is under spring pressure so will pop out and cause injury or its loss/damage if you do not keep pinching it. Ease it out slowly and remove it.

4. Pull the slide back and twist the barrel again anti-clockwise till it wont turn it anymore. Ease the slide and barrel out forwards.

5. Once the slide is out Twist the barrel back to its original position and then jiggle it out from the front of the slide. Once out carefully remove the main spring from the barrel. NOTE: Usually the last coil or two at rear end of the main spring is a little smaller and is designed to fit tightly around the barrel- remember to re-insert accordingly.

That should be about as far as you should go without tools and is also adequate for basic maintainence.

Reassembly is in reverse.
