.. Come to think of it.. Its not the wisest thing to do, but if you have declared it at the port of entry and the baggage has been checked at port of arrival and at the port of departure... and let thru, I guess it should not be any problem. But, to be double sure, I guess Tirths is right in declaring it. Will require the verification and other formalities discussed.tirths";p="61156 wrote: ...Carrying restricted item via Green Channel without declaration Think twice. I will never do that. I know there will be lot of trouble but I don't like to be in much bigger trouble. Sorry TenX.

Let's get a really powerful .22 that doesn't need any customs clearance...get the IOFB .22 rifle eight to ten really powerful shots receiver grooved for scope etc.
Apologies but i am bored to death with airgun import queries. Let's go get a firearm and be done with it, unless you are a convicted felon that is. Tan tan tara!

Thanks for the reply TenX. So this means, that air guns as per the new regulations are exempted for custom's duty and addl. duty?TenX";p="63242 wrote:
I believe you do. The rule is applicable for all Air rifles and Air pistols...
The act states as follows:
Chapter 90 to 96
90.1. Customs duty & CV duty have been exempted on Air guns of 0.177 calibre (air rifle & air pstols) of Chapter 93. Consequently, these goods are also exempted from 4% special additional duty of customs (S.No. 52 of notification No. 21/2002- customs, inserted vide notification No. 21/2008-customs, refers).
And Air guns cover both air rifles and air pistols
Thanks again!

Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
Members,
Briefly telling you the experience of a friend who got down a Diana panther. This friend of mine who is a major in the army and posted in Lebanon bought a Diana 34 for his brother who is a member of KSRA. The airgun was detained at the Bangalore airport and my friend was asked to approach the Police Commissioner's office to get the airgun inspected. My friend then approached the police who asked for a letter from the customs guys. Before he could go back to the customs guys to get this letter, he got a call from the customs guys telling him to come and get the airgun. He got the airgun released without any additional experiences. My friend's brother is now having a great time with his latest acquisition. The customs authorities in Bangalore have started to think and take the right decisions. This came as a very pleasant surprise.
