Air Rifle Vs Air Pistol..... Confused.... Pls help
Hi Everybody,
I am new to this forum. Thanks to google where i typed air gun + india and i was shown gateway to IFG.
I need advice from experts here regarding gun purchase. I had a small pistol break barrel in my 9th standard, which costed me around 220 Rs in 1996. But it was not accurate even for short targets of even 5 meters.
This time I have a budget of around 3000 Rs and would like to purchase an air gun or a pistol.
But I want to know the difference between accuracy, target range, power etc between an air gun and an air pistol(most importantly which I can purchase in my budget). I will prefer pistol over air gun given above parameters are same as it is easy to carry.
Regard
Rohit

Welcome aboard Dashy. The Indian made airpistols are good for nothing. They are not good enough for paper targets too. Considering your budget, your best bet would be to go for an IHP airgun in .177 or .22 depending on your liking of the caliber. But you will have to extend your budget a little because the IHP airguns are priced over 3000/-. All the best and happy plinking.

Hi Dashy
Welcome to IFG. Good to know that you have maintained your interest for many years
The IHP Break barrel Air rifle is anyday far better than the IHP break barrel air pistol. You will not find any good break barrel air pistols in India.
Basically, in terms of both power and accuracy, the rifle out-fares the pistol by leaps and bounds, owing to its longer barrel, more powerful spring, and weight. The smaller spring in the pistol is no where close to that of the rifle. Also, it is known to lose its power pretty often, and you will be able to see the pellet go out of the barrel, after some shots. The break barrel pistol is nowhere a mate for power or accuracy...
However, IHP also makes CO2 Air Pistols, which are much more accurate and powerful. They are also coming out with a Compressed Air version soon. But these cost more than twice your present budget, but is worth the money, in terms of power, accuracy, handling, etc.
If you really want a pistol, get in touch with some club members in your area, who may own one, or knows to get one from IHP. If a rifle is OK, the IHP rifle (in .177 or .22) should do fine. Hope this helps.

Go for an IHP or National Air rifle....
.22 cal would be better...
air rifle will give u more accuracy for a longer range..

Check out the for sale section.. there is a second hand IHP National 35 in 0.177 for sale there.(And a Sisco 0.22)
Yesterday, I tested both the rifles and after a pellet test found both in very good condition. I pick up the Sisco (purely for my like for 0.22)
I can say the national 35 (quoted price of Rs. 2700) is very good and I was quite tempted to pick up both the rifles. However, money does not grow on trees... you could contact sniper, he will help you with the rifle.
Welcome to IFG.. Happy and safe shooting.

Hi All,
Thanks for quick reply to my post.
I am digging into the forum to find relavent info. I came across a post by HotShot regarding price of IHP 35 0.22. It goes like this:
"Just bought myself a IHP 35 0.22 AIR RIFLE from Hassanand Hemandas . I paid Rs.4500 for it but after reading this forum i think i have got cheated. ALL OF YOU SEEM TO HAVE PAID AROUND 3500 - 3750 FOR IT. GOSH I FEEL FOOLISH."
I enquired for the same gun with
TN Armoury
Chennai
They quoted price for IHP 25 as 4500 and 35 as 5000 !!!!!
Is this the correct price ? If not than is there anybody from Chennai who can guide me as to from where to make a purchase... I have extended my budget to 4000
Regards
Rohit

If you are so particular in buying an IHP in Chennai then try Anna City Armoury (find address in the dealers section). He may not have IHPs readily available, but might ask you to wait. Other armouries in Chennai will quote high prices.Dashy";p="61069 wrote:TN Armoury

dashy, go for a IHP- (B- 35) .177 CAL. it shoots in flatter trajectory than a .22, also there are many pellet options for a .177. available best indian pellets for a .22 is heavy in weight than required. there is now import option for .177 foreign make pellets.

Dashy,
I absolutely second what ronish says. Go for a IHP 35 in .177. Dont think too much about it. After all, its your first and definitely not your last air rifle....

Beg to differ with you gents here. I think that the IHP 25 is a better choice. The IHP 35 though has a tad more power, but the design is cruder. Ofcourse we all know that more power is useless without accuracy.

The IHP 25 should also fit the bill. Its got a better balance than the 35. I'd got for a 35. Its slightly more powerful and pretty good on accuracy too.
