Delhi Customs at FPO are not clear about the import duty. They claim that though the import duty is removed, a CVD shall still be charged roughly @ 15%.

If I am not mistaken, CVD comes in two flavors of Addl. Duty and Spl. Addl. Duty, which totals to 20% (14% + 6%) .. :)

For an airgun, arriving via post at Delhi FPO, the duty (CVD) will be 15%. Scope via post is not allowed. You can carry it back with you to India as baggage though.

Andy.. usually, the customs duty is levied at the port of landing, by the customs department. This is cleared by the courier who is getting it in, and when they deliver it, you will have to pay them back what they paid. They will give you a copy of the documents produced by the customs guys :)
And its not 15 or 35 percent. Its divided into slabs, something like -
Customs Basic Duty: 10 %
Basic Duty Pref: (This I dont know)
Addl Duty(CVD): 14 %
Spl Addl Duty(Spl.CVD): 4 %
Excise Cess 3 %
Customs Cess 3 %

Based on what is applicable and what percentage is applicable, which varies from item to item, you will end up shelling out that amount.
Infodrive India website has a detailed listing of applicable charges for different goods. :)

Anand,

I believe its the basic customs duty + Special CVD that they charge which comes to roughly 14-15%. Not Sure about the category though. What is sure is, you have to pay a total of roughly 15%.

I am going to Delhi FPO with a friend this week. Will find out.

Just the same as you read on this thread; as long as you are member of any shooting club/rifle association. Should be a breeze.

Hi tenx the duites ork out to be almost 30 percent of the air rifle cost thats quite a bit .i also saw the infomedia website .that means even for a $ 200 airgun( min quality air rifle) one has to shell $ 30 as duty. what about a used air rifle will the duty be less on that or else the same rules aply
