Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
P_Sircar,
When you say 2" high mount, would I be right in assuming you are refering to the overall height of the mount? If I recall correctly, a dovetail mount's height is the distance between the claw and the base of the bottom saddle. You aren't refering to a see-through mount by any chance are you? Though I doubt if even that would measure 2" from claw to base of bottom saddle.

Mack The Knife,
I did not say the mount is 2" high. The 2 in my post refers to two sets.
Sahid saab assumed it to be 2".
My fault, I should have clarified, earlier
However I believe the monut is 30 m.m.
The base of the scope is about 27 m.m. from the top of mounting rail. The scope, when fitted just about cleares the rear sight, that too not at the fully flared place. The ring is at my native place, and I am in Kolkata now. Shall clarify the exact dimensions once I get back to my village
Since the set is lying with me , I thought it will be more useful if some body uses it.
As I have already said, it is Free Of Cost, with no guarantees. The user may try it out and if it does not serve his purpose, he may return it to me.(with or without thanks)
Regards Prabir.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Mea culpa, Prabir!
What you describe is a not too high a mount. More or less like what I have to put up with but not for too long...hopefully.
Herewith a tip I would recommend, assuming you haven't done so already. Raise the height of the comb, so that you look through the centre of the scope.
I have achieved this by using a simple home made butt cuff made of cotton by a friend's mother. You pad the cuff with hard foam till you attain the required height. I will post a pic tomorrow and I should be able to spare some of that foam should you need it.

Dear Mack The Knife,
Thanks for the tip. I have got the butt remade by an lod carpenter. He is very good in wood carving.
The over all shape was from a Brno !!, Kindly lent by a friend.
I sat dwon with him and got it curved right, till I was looking through the center of the scope.
The bedding of the stock was not very good, so I did a bit of glass bedding(free floating) with modified Fibreglass D.M.C. Shoots prety well at 50 Yds. (max range in my village house garden.) The back stop is a wall 7' high, with sand bags piled up in front of the wall.
The sand bags are in honour of my .315, that I also use there .
Should have thought of the easier choice suggested by you, ealier.
Thanks and regards.
Prabir.
P.S. could you post the pic? I may use it for some thing else.

Now that I remember, I have given scopes to three friends so far for their IOF .22 LR.
The first two were Norcinia ( German ) 3-9 x 32.
This time I got a simmons 4x32 for the same price, about Dhs. 250 ( INR 3,000 odd ). The 32 mm bell scope sits fine on the IOF .22. 40 mm might require some adjustments as Prabir mentioned.
Altering the scope position by fixing it a bit backwards might help. But remember a scope objective will be sighted very quick if it is taken as far back as possible, subject to individual adjustments in how you mount and pick your .22. Some people like to lean into a scope view, some prefer the picture appearing as soon as they shoulder it with head in normal position.
Once set these starting level scopes ( entry level models ) are doing fine on the Indian made .22 LR rifles.

Shahid,
At present I use a 2-7x32 (non-AO) but have to use a Sprortsmatch high mount to clear the rear sight.
The only way a 4x32 would work on this rifle is if:
1) The windage blade were removed from the rear sight assembly or if the entire tanget mechanism were removed.
2) The scope's overall length was short enough not to go past the rear sight.
3) A high mount is already in use.
Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
If you decide to use low mounts, not only would you have to remove the rear sight but you would also have to turn/machine the bolt handle to clear the scope.Wish the folks at RFI had used a longer bolt handle.
PS-Why is that no one seems to put an aperture sight on their rifle in India?

Yes Parag, that is an Elite 3200 2-7x32. Decent scope if you are thinking of getting one. I would recommend a Weaver Rimfire 2-7x though. However, I am replacing the 3200 with a 1.5-5x20 and medium height mounts.
penpusher has a valid point about the bolt handle and I hope I don't face a problem with my new set-up.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Parag,
As already mentioned in a previous post I use a padded butt cuff as a comb raiser so that I see through the centre of the scope without craning my neck. This gives me a comfortable and consistent cheek weld.
It is also used by guards and sportsmen with 5 to 10 cartridge loops for quick access to the cartridges.
You can find that particular Weaver at http://theopticzone.com/detail.aspx?ID=2531 Jon's a good man to deal with and his prices are usually lower than Cabelas'. However, you should be able to get the same scope at an even lower price on E-Bay.
