Dad had picked up a .22 cal air-rifle (a BSA) the cost was below the dutiable amount so he had nothing to declare and simply went through the green channel.
For the address try google with the following keywords: woodys of wembley
Their website should be right on top of the results...
Cheers!

ABHIJEET,
Have you already put down your import experience in the forum ? If not could you briefly tell me how your dad managed ? How the gun was packed , customs at Mumbai , etc. ? Also i have read on this forum some people mentioning that certain Air Rifles from UK are not Full Power due to local laws and that the same rifles in Dubai etc are full power !! Any idea about this ?

Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
HotShot,
I have brought airguns with me as personal baggage from heathrow twice (thrice, if i add my dad's experiences), both times with jet airways(once with virgin), and it was a pushover. granted, i had to spend an extra hour checking in as all the airport formalities were performed. but the airline ground staff were very courteous and helpful.
also, if 19 web pages of info on carrying airguns as personal baggage cannot satisfy you, i'm not sure what will. every one has a different experience, because every one faces a different babu at the desk, be it london or india. you cannot extrapolate anybody's experience to your own.
your best bet is to cover all corners mentioned in this thread (reciepts, etc), hope for the best , and take the plunge. 'nuff said

Hamiclar01,
You guess you are right . I will do that.
Any idea about my query regarding air rifle spring power being only up to 12 ft.lb in the UK ? I have even read on this website http://www.euroguns.co.uk/acatalog/Air_ ... rings.html this warning - WARNING - FITTING THIS SPRING MAY TAKE YOUR AIR RIFLE OVER THE UK LEGAL LIMIT OF 12 ft.lb.

Hey guys!
Well I think that all of you have missed out yesterday's edition of The Telegraph. A sailor was held at Calcutta Airport for bringing with him an air gun along with tqo bottles of CO2 and he has been sent to judicial custody till the police personnel verify whether it is really an air pistol or something else.
can you beat this?

Hi sunny ,
If I am not wrong, you are the same guy I had a brief conversation with in Woody Of Wembley air gun shop day before yesterday!
Would you mind doing us, i mean members of the forum, a favour. When you go through the customs in Mumbai, please ask them if there are any restrictions on caliber i..e are you allowed to import .22 air rifle as personal checked in baggage?
I recently imported a .177 HW 100 via Nagpur international airport. It was detained by th customs for nearly a week and was only released after the firearms unit of the commissioner of police's office inspected it and "passed" it. When I went to collect the rifle, the commissioner of the customs informed me that you are only allowed to import .177 caliber! " where does it say that you can import any caliber", he asked me!! It is interesting to note that the recent change to the law regarding the import of air rifles into india only refers to .177 caliber, and it doesn't even imply that you are allowed to import any air rifle.... Since there are no restrictions on the ownership of a legal .22 air rifle in india, we can only assume that it is ok to import it.
I am aware that a number of forum members have imported .22 caliber, but it seems there is still no clarity on the issue..
Have a safe journey back.
Simon

Suggest you dont pack them together in the same bag at all. Better still if someone else can get the scope for you...t4sunny";p="56620 wrote: ...I also have a Scope with it but will keep it packed away from the gun....

Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
What if one is a frequent traveler and wants to get a 0.22 air rifle with him could we try the following. In trying to completely avoid any customs problems whatsoever would it be possible to completely disassemble the gun and get it back in 3 parts. Say you get the stock first, then the barrel and after that you get the rest of the parts. I mean i know that people have got in 0.22 s just by separating the action from the barrel, without a problem, but just to be totally on the safe side and avoid any problems whatsoever. Of course would work only if a person travels very often and knows someone who is competent to put the gun together . Could be a completely nutty idea so please do not be harsh !!!! Your comments and criticisms please

Sometimes, and as long as it does not look like a 'gun' in the scanner, the customs people may ignore it.
And as long as its an air rifle, it should not be too much of a problem, at arrival, if the person has a club membership...
... and we all know how easy/difficult it is to remove it and assemble it back
In all eventualities, it would be best to inform the carriage at the departure check in

clear, you are allowed to import an AR in .177 Cal only, you can bring a .22 but that is
at your own risk.If there is a smart Customs Officer and there are quite a few out there,
the AR you bring in will never leave the airport, even though you fulfill all the requiremets
like a club membership etc.
Now if you have a friend or uncle in the neighbourhood who is willing to oblige as he sees a potential Gold prospect in the future then dont even bother about a .22 get something with even
more zing,it's as simple as that, people do it all the time or atleast those who can.
Mods can you please lock a few threads ( you know the ones ) in the AR section, incl this one, they have been flogged enough,it's getting nowhere the same Q's being asked time and again
