That is not the only problem with the O ring
When they install the O ring, sometimes its surface is not perfectly parallel to the breech. So at least on one side there is a possibility of gas leakage. This only happens if not installed properly as in the case of my IHP 35b .177

Sometimes when the old O ring is removed, some bits of the ring or the glue remains. This causes a mis-alignment of the new ring. Not that this is rocket science.. , but if the O ring is correct in dimension and sits well, it is better

Hmmm, the oring is not completely flush in my case.. but there is no leakage afaik.

This is how i check. Wipe some oil around the breech area and fire the gun in a dark room with a laser or light passing thru right above the breech.

If there is air leakage, the oil particles can be clearly seen when the gun is fired. Sorta like from an atomiser. Have a look at the pic. I tried the same thing with my GI and when fired there is a lot of leakage. So I guess it works. Crude, but works..

Using a laser is more effective. Whatever light source you use, make sure the light passes over the gun without touching.

Using talcum powder in breech and firing also a good idea to find air leakage

I'm allergic to smoke and other small airborne particles! lol.. So cant use powder... But it should work too I guess..

If you are using oil... can we just wrap a white cloth around... (without any lazer business).. Sprouting 'atomized' oil will stain the cloth...

Just guessing...

Hmmm.. True. But if the leak is minimal, I dont know whether the cloth will stain.

I am new to the forum, and in need of an Airgun for target practice. I am not keen on compitition and not very good at that. I enquired about IHP 35 .22 gun at many shops in bangalore just to find that they are being sold at very higher prices than the actual MRP which I believe is Rs.3150/-. Being a Lawyer, I don't want to pay anything more than the legal price set by the company which I beleve incledes the dealer profit. With some luck and some help from some search I found out the factory price of IHP 35 .22 for the dealers is ranging between 2.1K to 2.25k based on the quantity they order. I dont know why the dealers want more than 100% profit? This is ramphant in india in case of hobby sports like angling, shooting and even other sports. The dealers quote any price they are comfortable with. I think we need to have more supermarkets and hypermarkets which atleast sell you at MRP quoted on the article or slightly less. The mobile phone market was also like this and it is stabilized now. I don't know when it happens with Arms market.

My uncle got the same IHP 35 .22 some 3 years back for 2.8k which I think was reasonable at that time from some shop in mangalore. But after checking the forum posts I am not sure of buying IHP gun from anywhere for MRP within India.. If anyone can help me I will be thankful.

Otherwise I will ask my cousin who will be returning from Dubai next month to get me a airgun which should cost me around 8 -10k with the duty. Please help me on finalizing this also. I will post a question in the relevant topic also.

I urge the forum members to discourage people who are quoting or paying more than MRP.

If you cant wait, I have heard that Kovi Shop in JP Nagar is quoting the lowest of the prices at approximately 3800. You can speak to one Mr. Ganapathi there, and refer me.

Regarding ex-factory price, it is around 2800 ex-IHP-Ahmedabad factory, and additional costs for transport, etc should be added. Anyways...

Regarding prices going up in proportion to demand - it has always been there... petrol bunks close shop the night before a hike comes into effect. Ciggis are stored by distributors just before budget... and something similar is happening after India's gold in Olympics. Sad tale, but requires more reforms than what Babus could ever do

You can also order it online from aimco of Calcutta, the owner Joydeep is a member here and AFAIK he sells it at the MRP price with very reasonable shipping charges. Maybe some of the members who have ordered from him in past can pitch in and provide you with more first hand feedback.

Another member here "Bandukbhandar" from MP also stocks IHP air-rifles and is open to shipping them to purchasers, you could try sending him a PM for his prices.

Of course an imported gun would almost certainly be superior - just stay away from the cheaper Chinese junk...
