Yes, You will be charged a fine only.
Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Tirths,
What will the fine be for? I went through a similar situation and got a club membership after the date of import and no fine was charged. Did you experience a similar situation?

Well, I would not say It was me who faced the similar experience but my brother in Kolkata.
But I guess, it is the discretion officer handling the case. And no guaranty that, they cannot charge the fine

You just have to procure a letter from the club stating that you are a member and your membership number. It doesnt have to say since when you have been a member. But i guess its still a grey area with the customs people and experiences may vary.

i am facing some experience importing the Beeman P1 ordered from pyramydair arrived in new delhi via FedEx and sitting in the customs for a week. i recieved a emial yesterday after many calls here and there the e-mail says as fallow:
This is to inform you that you have imported Air Pistol 0.177 calibers which is not free to import. For such import few conditions are there same as follows :
1. said goods are imported into India by the National Rifle Association of India for the purpose of imparting training.
2. the importer , at the time of clearance of the goods produce a cert of the Assistant Commissioner of Customs from an officer not below the rank of Director in the Sports Authority of India recommending grant exemption to the said goods and indicating :
a) name & address of the importer
b) de..scription, quantity and value of the said goods
c) said goods are required for the purpose of imparting training
3. Import of specified type of ammunition may be permitted to license arms dealers subject to such conditions as may be specified from time to time.
Gurus get me some idea how to go about it. I dont have any club membership.
thanks in advance.

Try to get the rifle club membership nomatter when u joined the club it will enhance ur claim to 98%
1)No exim policy states that .177 cal airgun can be imported only by nrai.
2)memebr of rifle club member get the previlage to import .177 caliber airgun as per exim policy notification-12 (re-2005)2004-09
http://www.nrai.in/notifications.html
Sports Authority of India recommending grant exemption certificate applies only to the renowed shooter and not for airgun import.
3) the third point is no way connected to airgun import
so in ur matter 2) is the only document/exim poilicy needed to release the airgun ,but it is the fact that u luck depend on the office who u r going to deal with.
The policy is fixed but the implementing officers realy matter how they take in account.
Be cool/confident while dealing with concern officers or else ur p1 will be gifted to officer's Son.
Good luck

Friends,
I am trying to import a HW77 carbine.I had gone to the customs officer calcutta(P.R.O./appraiser Gr. 6)
with a copy of the exemption notifications.to get a clarification.
He could locate the exemption notification on
Page 644 /Section XIV Chapter 93 of Customs Tariff Vol.1 Wherein it says, that
However, import of .177 cliber air rifles and air pistols will be free for shooters regd. with state level rifle clubs. The NRAI will also be allowed to import .......Etc.
But then he pointed to the
General Exemption No:117 on page 1265 of Customs Tariff VOL. 2 Wherein it says.
a.If imported by NRAI
b.The importer will have to submit a certificate form an officer, not below the rank of a Director,SAI stating Nome and address , The make, mod. of gun,Price thereof. He also has to certify that the rifle will be used for imparting training.
I think this applies to imports by NRAI only, but the customs offcial insists that the certificate is required for individual members also. Might be difficult to get such a Certificate( I am afraid)
Any body having any experience of import by airfreight? any other clarifications welcome.

Membership alone was good enough for mep_sircar";p="52275 wrote: The cstoms people at Calcutta say, you need a letter from Director,SAI for importing .177 air rifle(on top of being a member of a state level rifle club.) Thanks

Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
hello guys,
i am about to order a co2 pistol .177 cal from pyramidair or topairgun.com . Something similar to what one of the members here (akshat i think!) recently acquired.Going through his post i deduced that his courier Fed Ex ,cleared the package for him at the delhi customs (i.e no running around, pleading involved). however on further reading through the forum,i realised a few members here(again from delhi) were not so lucky and had to go to the FPO .. I am in a fix .. just wanted to just go ahead and take the leap of faith, but feel worried at the prospect of having to face the men in white.. .This would be my first online purchase so feel a bit daunted with the legalities. I have a shooting club membership, from dehradoon . My more experienced fellow members kindly advise... as to what my plan of action should be.. i.e regarding any specific courier or websites that i should use, to facilitate doorstep delivery..
regards,
sharad

Admax,
There is nothing specifically mentioned in the customs manual about co2 airpistols. It would all depend on the officer at the point of time your co2 pistol arrives and on his whims and fancies. Best thing to do would be to ask your friends or relatives to carry it down for you, if you have someone coming down from the US or UK. All the best to you and hope that you will be able to get down your co2 pistol as soon as possible.
P.S: Your shooting club membership will come in very handy and will certainly help you clear your co2 pistol if you have problems with the FPO.

Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Dear Prabhath,
once again thanx for your inputs.. will give it a go i guess ,as soon as the pyramid and topairgun people send me their respective prices. apparantly these sites charge around 50-60 $ above the mrp + shipping charges for various tests(something called a lemon test ,and visual inspection and what not). did any of you face the same situation while ordering online. kind of stretched out on the moolah front so trying to be really stingy..
thanx again
sharad
p.s Guys if anybody could give me some feedback regarding the courier to be used for doorstep delivery... i.e USPS (approx 79$) or Fed Ex (approx 125$) it would be of great help..

Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
hmm looks like i mixed up my courier names here due to my inexperience.. thanx for pointing it out Mack The Knife sir.. will get back to the website people and clarify this point. So i can safely assume UPS which is less expensive compared to Fed Ex (by atleast 50 $), and resultantly takes a longer time to reach our shores ,would still be delivered at my doorstep??
