Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
congrats yar.. david.. well done..
jst like d way u shared ur experience. very true.. it completely depends on the officer in charge..
as i faced the same problem at B'bay airport last time. the office in charge was absolutely fine with the airgun but other officer with same rank was complaining to their senior not to clear d airgun(.177). He almost had a fight with me on that issue.. but finally the Officer in charge arranged all for NOC and released the airgun on the same day.
but here u added something very interesting as no duty due to cost less than duty limits and something positive for .22 as personal baggage. nice to hear that...
not next time.. this time .22
cheers

Do all of us a favour and don't use that spotty teenage punk text speak here. Some of us old grumpy farts have a serious blood pressure problem when we see such posts.i guess i was very clear with my text in the post and the title as well.
Before you ask, here's an example of what I mean - "jst like d way u shared ur experience."

I fully agree that there has to be a universal method for clearing air weapons / paint ball guns. It can happen only if we all unitedly send a strong message through our MPs, Political representatives, shooting clubs etc. So far as I acn see here on this forum & other places also that individual is justifying his rightful import & government babus are trying to fleece & trouble as much as they can.shahid";p="45097 wrote:This method seems to be fine for people who live in big cities with International airports.
But what about small town people who use Delhi / Bombay or Banglore only as a transit point to their final destination.
It is not easy to come to Delhi / Metro everytime to get the police certificate done.
There has to be a more universal method.
To begin with why not start a signature campaign to be sent to all the concerned departments & make them aware about the unity being formed. As I can see most of our forumers are well to do & have very good contacts in government & politics. Why not use those contacts to free our sport? We acn also take gun shop owners along with us as they are going to be major beneficiaries of reforms if any come through.
I think this is the time we can do something for the future of our sport or one day they will even ban diwali pistols also. We have such strong base of this forum, we must take a first step towards making our sport as free from unwanted restrictions as possible.

Since you will be buying from the U.K., I suggest you handle the Air Arms TX200, TX200HC and Pro Sport as well.i think i will follow Mack The Knife Banas recommendation and go for either the HW 77K or the HW 97K in 0.22 calibre
If you need open sights, then the HW77K is the one to go for.
12 ft.lbs. is more than enough.
Hotshot, instead of quoting your post, I went and edited it by mistake. Sorry aboout that!

Hotshot,
Dont ever bring the scope and rifle together.
Its easy to dismantle the rifle, but pack it well. Let it be well-cushioned and in a strong case. One of the rules mention that guns should be in strong cases.
Ensure you have an airport-certified lock on your luggage. declare it at the UK airport while boarding. (It may take some extra time, be prepared for it).
Keep your bills, and other papers ready - I would recommend a set of 3 - 1 at the UK airport, 1 with the dismantled air rifle, and 1 with you.
The International Airport security will check your rifle, enter it in their database against your ticket, and sometimes they put a 'checked' seal. They will then allow you to lock it in front of them. (The lock, as I mentioned is the airport authority travel lock. Basically, this lock can be opened by anyone in airport security and such.)
It is then your choice to mention what you are carrying when you land at Mumbai. you may be lucky to carry on, or it may be inspected, questions asked, etc. In some cases, it may be held back at the airport security unless declared as an air rifle of the 0.177 caliber by the police department. If this happens, it will take you a few additional days to start plinking
Also, try not to carry the pellets and the rifle in the same case.
About UK guns having reduced power, I have no idea. Waiting for more gurus to input on this.

hi Hotshot
can you clearfly what you mean by full power?
in the UK the law states that if over 12 lb then one requriers a FAC (firearms cert)
and its best to ask with the airline that you would be going with what is their requirements for carriing airgun. As some airlines may not allow.
the UK airport sercuirty are ok, they do not reqire bills proof of culb membership etc. at most they will do a visual check to confirm its what you say it is.
in London most air rifle shop have a mixed air rifles.
so its best to find out first which stock the rifle that you want.
NO shop will post you the air rifle within the UK as its against the law. it has to be face to face deal.
carry some form of id and address proof even Indian one will do along side passport/driving license. As most require one to produce some form of id.

It is also best to be on a direct flight back, some airlines will require you to get permission from transit airport authorities. For e.g. if you are travelling on Emirates and are transiting via Dubai, you may be asked (by the airline) to get permission from the Dubai airport authorities. IIRC this has happened once to a member here.
E-mail the dangerous goods department of your airline asking them of the process/ policy of that particular airline in terms of carrying airguns, (I know from experience that Air India & Virgin are OK with this) and keep a copy of that e-mail/ e-mail exchange handy at the airport to show the airport security chappies.
A couple of months back my Dad had picked up an air-rifle from Woody's of Wembley (London) and the old gent (the shop owner) was kind enough to walk him through the airport procedure as well as give him a briefing on what he should e-mail the airline etc. His prices were higher than some other shops but I'd say the service was well worth the few extra quid.
Cheers!
