But a lot of police officials have told me that only 1 handgun for protection is permitted. How can I convince them (not hurting their egos)?

Hi amk, from which state did you get your first license ? just curious. if you have that license for "protection" then how did you prove that you need a gun for protection? again .. i am asking coz i am just curious and don't know much about the rules in india.

Thanks bud.

Bombay. Getting an arms license for protection in my line of work is not difficult. In fact some authorities encourage us to arm ourselves.

I do mind, sorry. I have ignored your other questions on a different thread.

Edit: Sorry not your question, it was someone else.

Talking of cannons, dont we have another 'member' here who also owns a cannon? literally and figuratively? ;)
Bhargav, Like the Mann act of 1920's in US, gun control practiced in India is MORE in the word-than the spirit... of enforcing a 'no crime by licenced gun' atmosphere, and to give our rural cottage industry of 'katta' making, a chance to develop. They're doing a good job too, as you can see from the Tehelka probe...(remenber the reservation? same applies here too, rural upliftment scheme)
, the babu's and bureaucrats and the esteemed Arms Clerks go that extra mile  to deny a licence.

A very encouraging ad by the Noida Police for license:

http://www.noidapolice.com/index_armsam.php

Looking to apply for an Arms License in Noida. I am in a fix here regarding copy of the proof of residence. I do not have any of the mentioned documents which have been issued in NCR (i.e. Ration Card, Voter Identity Card, Passport, Electricity Bill)
Any idea what other document would work as a proof of residence? Say a Lease Agreement on rented property?

Speaking about the cops - do they themselves know how to fire one in times of need? Not the ones in the Crime branch; I'm talking about the average Sergeants.

Hi RottLord,
I think you made the comment based on silver screen.
Do you know shooting ability of WB CID (crime branch of West-Bengal Police) cops...? One word "washout".

Lawman, when I mentioned "Crime Branch", I didn't point towards the WBP; I think I know them better than you do. Mumbai and Punjab Police, that's what I meant. Still, I know someone in the Law & Order dept. (I won't mention the name though) who stands as an exception. Too bad; learn how to read between the lines.

Hello there
With more than 900+ members it is strange that the poll got responses from only 41 members. are we coy about our guns or is it that the majority are not really serious about gun ownership

Hi RottLord,
In this forum, it is very hard to say that “I know the subject better than you” or vise versa as we do not know the profession and expertise of the forum-members. So, you may know WBP better than me  . So, forgive me  , I cannot challenge your knowledge…on any subject  . Thanks…keep posting.
