Re: IOF ASHANI .32 pistol
Recently my brother sold this IOf pistol , The barrell lock Wooden grip etc everything is orignal ,factory fitted,no modifications,The best feature of this pistol was its serial number 000043,we came to know that in starting IOF imported around 150 pcs later they started manufacturing in India. We comapred it with the latest model and found huge differences ,barrell is made of steel, slides ,frame is very comapct ,entire pistol weight less then the new ones.I never saw the second pistol of this kind,,

Badshah,
Since no one else in the world makes this pistol, from where did it originate?

penpusher as per dealers opinion they said it was made by FN as they consider it a copy of Browning. But i m not sure about it,,not compleatly Imported but may be assembled here.

Yaa surely it looks like a FN Browning. Take a look at the enclosed pictues of a FN Browning pistol and they do have a lot of similarities.

the Ashani is actually a poorly executed combination of the FN Browning M1910 and the Colt's M1903 Pocket Hammerless. The FN influence is seen primarily in the fore end of the slide while the rest of the gun is a shameless piracy of the 1903.
The notice that the portion of the frame ahead of the trigger-guard is steep - quite unlike that of the FN. This abrupt slope is because they deleted the under-barrel recoil spring of the 1903 and instead adopted the 'barrel wrap around' FN design. This resulted in a very ugly configuration.
Notice the FN1910/22 has a shallower frame section above the trigger guard axis...for obvious reasons.

Hi hock ann,
perhaps you mean variants of the Erfurt Pistol 7.65 mm 'Ortgies'?
The third one from the top?
http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/arms/pistols/armsap.htm
Seems to be just a superficial resemblance to the Ashani. It's more akin to the FN1910

PIB Press release Mar 15,2007
Lok Sabha
The production details of permissible / non - prohibited bore weapons so far in the current year, produced by Ordnance Factories for civilian use, are as under:-
Weapon Produced so far
.32 Revolver 17679
.32 Pistol 4235
.22 Revolver 580
Technical improvement of product is a continuous process. In current year i.e. 2006-07, firing mechanism of .32" Revolver was improved to further reduce probability of misfire and work is going on for reducing efforts for trigger pull, which is likely to be implemented in 2007-08. Similarly, issue of self unlocking was resolved in 2006-07 by certain design changes in firing mechanism of .32" pistol. Trials are being carried out at present to give coloured Teflon coating to pistol body, for improved surface protection and better appearance, which is expected to be implemented in 2007-08.
As the Ordnance Factories are basically producing arms and ammunition for Defence Forces, priority is accorded for production of Defence items. Depending upon the workload of Defence Forces, the production and issue of Revolvers/Pistols to the civilian license holders, takes one to four months time.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to Shri Ashok Argal in Lok Sabha today
