Does any knows any one in Pune who could let us know when Gurkha with OM 611 would be launched. AFAIK it is scheduled for october launch this year. This information is from Force guys whom we met in Auto expo in Jan. 2008.
For OM 616

For OM611
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_C-Class
it states "With the 1997 restyling, a lot of things changed under the hood of the Baby Benz. The most important innovation was the OM611, the first turbodiesel engine equipped with a Common rail direct injection system (co-developed with Bosch). The new model was named C 220 CDI, and had an output improvement of 30 PS compared with the C 220 Diesel, better fuel average and lower emissions."
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, “It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.”

Damn !!
I go away for a couple of days and this thread takes a whole different turn !!
One thing all of us must understand is people's needs are very different. I admire the Gurkha but like every other vehicle it does have it's short comings.
Buying a vehicle is a very personal choice based on one's needs. So there is absolutely no point in trying to convince someone else that your choice is better than theirs.
I love to go offroad and the Gurkha was the only vehicle i found with the great off-road capabilities and some creature comforts like ac/ps/ifs in a reasonable budget which is cheap to maintain and one that you don't mind bashing up. The other options in a similar budget was the Scorpio and Safari 4x4. These vehicles are a thousand times more refined than the Gurkha but the long wheelbase will be a disadvantage in certain off-road conditions. If some one chooses to go for a Safari or Scorpio 4x4 based on their needs/research, I have absolutely no problem with that and I won't try to convince them why they should have got a Gurkha instead.

OK the pump has been developed by Force and it has gone to ARAI for approval. So if everything turns out well we might see this vehicle in September last week or by October.
I would be travelling to Pune in May or June and would let you guys know further whatever I find out.

All right the first lot of Gurkha with OM611 is being released in month of September. There would be production of only 25 during the September month.

HI,
the recent news I have is the delivery has been delayed by a month, because the shipment of certain engine parts from Germany got delayed.
October is the time.
And one other source told me feburary ... Force is quite a force!!

Re: Tempo Gurkha 4x4
i LIKE the "gurkha" from what i saw in the video and pics it looks like a working vehicle. not like the bloated monsters sold here in the u.s. as "sport utility vehicles" by the u.s., european and japanese car makers. the closest thing i've seen recently to match the "gurkha" is a chevy "blazer" s-10 1988 model i used to own, and while the blazer s-10 was a fairly simple and practical 4x4 the gurkha wins in that respect too. it wouldn't be a car for the type of people who buy the big fords and gmc products but i'd buy one if they were imported into the states, and i had the money.
