OM611 has been in production by Force since 2003 for MB under a contract, they are going for indigenous pump for cost effectiveness and the trials have been successful so far. According to Mr. Mykhuri, in charge of Force R&D, OM611 is slated for release in October 2008 for TT and Gurkha range of vehicles.FourByFouraddict";p="41870 wrote: Regarding OM611. I contacted Force Motors and told them that I can hold my booking if they are planning to to put the OM611 in the Gurkha.
According to them, they don't have any plans since they have to design a 4x4 transfer case for the new gearbox that comes with the OM611 and send the vehicle back for ARAI approval etc. Apparently the volumes don't justify the sales according to them. But if you are not in a hurry, you can always wait and see if the tortoise moves .

I hope you are correct man. I got a different story from them. It will be a nice vehicle. But I'll bet you won't see it in October 2008. This purely based on my experience with the way Force Motors functions.Django";p="41897 wrote: [

My source is the boss himself and I have driven the 4x4 OM611 vehicle personally. The transfer case change is a non issue as the mods have been done way back on 2004. A bit of patience and you are rewarded with whats probably the best 4x4 out there. In case you do decide to get the Pajero, bear in mind, the Indian version is more of a poser than doer. It has no option for rear diff locks and worse of all, it comes with 15" wheels which is a joke as even the lowly Goberpio and Gandfari come with 16" rims.FourByFouraddict";p="41900 wrote:I hope you are correct man. If they do launch it with the OM611 engine. It will be an aw some vehicle. I have been given the option of delaying delivery so I think I will wait until October since you seem to have credible information.Django";p="41935 wrote: My source is the boss himself and I have driven the 4x4 OM611 vehicle personally. I am not 100% sold on the Pajero. 15 inch wheels are an annoyance, but maybe I can upgrade them to 16 inch. My main gripe is the underpowered engine. I recently read a comparison between the Pajero and Ford Endevour Thunder and highway performance of the Pajero is pathetic. I guess, I will wait until October and see if Force Motors does indeed change it's stripes.

Hello! I had checked out this vehicle when I had to buy one for our company. Dont mind my saying but it is a shabilly put together vehicle. The dashboard is a joke! the safety of the front passenger is severly compromised by the angular steel fabrications and if there is a accident his legs are a sure gonner. I dont see why such a crude vehicle should be allowed on the roads. The old model mercedes discard engines being used in this are really heavy. These engines are no match for the modern alloy engines used by the other companies I dont think the engine will even pass the stringent pollution control norms now. All diesels are progressing to CDRI and I dont see how a indian injection pump old tech engine will even pass the norms. I dont think this contaption will see the light of the day. This is just my personal viewpoint. If they do launch it with the OM611 engine. It will be an aw some vehicle. And yet the Gurkha was the only vehicle awarded as the best 4x4 by German magazine. The OM616 is legend, will last 500,000+ miles easily without any overhaul, show me one alloy engine capable of that. The clearance in Gurkha is not even matched by its costlier sibling namely the G Wagen. Its tubular chassis combined with independent front is unsurpassed plus its among the few vehicles to come with front and rear diff locks. The rear diff is rated at 3 ton. Sure its rough, but then its no poser, that all steel dash is meant to take years of pounding including the ease of mounting a gun rack which I have done so with ease. Try that on the flimsy plastic dashes which disintegrate in few years. Gurkha is not for everyone, its only for hardcores and the corrugated steel body is exactly meant for that. FYI, the OM616 turbo used in the Gurkha passes stringent Euro-IV norms with BOSCH E Jetronic pump. The one sold in Germany was Euro-IV certified. The IDI engines outlast high pressure CRDI in terms of life and are way more forgiving with bad fuel which is the norm in India, specially when you travel off road.hiralal bhiana";p="41942 wrote: If they do launch it with the OM611 engine. The Pajero IDI maybe underpowered but it will outlast the junk Thai built engine in the Ford Exploder and its unfair to compare an ancient IDI to today's latest CRDI junk. 16" wheels with Yokohama Geolandar ATX should get you going off road with the Pajero as it has good travel and clearance combined with excellent transmission and t case ratios.

Perfect Dada... I haver already been sold out.
Now what would be differences between the DI 2600 Gurkha being offered now and the Gurkha with OM611. I guess the major change would be engine itself.
How would you rate both the vehicles, which one you would suggest!

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, “It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.”

Well Jangoo let me ask you living in North India how many times one has to go off road? We had to get one as my work and farm are in such places where occasionally and in the monsoons you need the capability. well where you are in commie land ( WB) there are hardly any roads - there also a simple 4x2 should get you going on most roads and you dont need to kill yourself driving this hand beaten hick contraption. so when I want a vehicle which should also pep on the road and give me good off road performace I will go with the ford exdeavour thunder any day . As far as its engine is concerned its generations ahead of the wheazer you seem so in love with. The pajero engine too is very outdated compared to the ford engine. I suggest you do some research and see the specs for yourself. The approach angle , clearance and wheel diameter of the stock "thai junk" also beats the pajero without one having to spend extra on rims or tyres etc...As for youtube just look around and you see enough ford and other american SUV clips - anyway compare the hybrid crampy highly uncomfortable gurkha with the endeavour and see a honest picture for yourself! The lesser said about the gurkha the better- the force motor agency in Chandigarh is so laid back that they have lost all hope and dont even attempt to sell you a vehicle!django:The Pajero IDI maybe underpowered but it will outlast the junk Thai built engine in the Ford Exploder and its unfair to compare an ancient IDI to today's latest CRDI junk. 16" wheels with Yokohama Geolandar ATX should get you going off road with the Pajero as it has good travel and clearance combined with excellent transmission and t case ratios.

If you don't do off road and 4x2 is enough for you, there is no point in this conversation. Gurkha is for true off road in conditions which would make other 4x4 vehicles choke. The US vehicles you see doing off road are heavily modded unlike the Gurkha which is stock. Dunno where you got the theory that Gurkha is cramped, it has the best leg space of any 4x4 period except for the Chevy Yukon, the Endeavour can't even be compared. Not only have I done my research, I am a first hand user of 4x4 vehicles of various types. As for Pajero being underpowered, power has nothing to do with off road. Its the overall design. The Endeavour is a typical mall cruiser with weak suspension components and heavy and unruly in every sense. Whereas the Gurkha can be taken off road on daily basis with minimal wear and tear on its suspension. The Endeavour would not take that kind of pounding. The Endeavour's rear suspension is a joke off road and can't even handle regular roads with potholes. The suspension is on par with Scorpio which isn't saying much. No one is forcing you to buy the Gurkha, its only for few who are enthusiasts and need a genuine off road vehicle to ply daily on terrains which will send regular poser 4x4s to shop on daily basis. Even with all the tribulations of Force motors, there are those among us who exert patience and ultimately get rewarded for it.hiralal bhiana";p="41964 wrote:Well Jangoo let me ask you living in North India how many times one has to go off road? OM611 is all MB wheras the current engine is 80bhp DI engine which is derived from the older IDI OM616. The OM611 has excellent low end torque and 140bhp to boot making the Gurkha a competent on and off road performer.rhandle";p="41963 wrote: Perfect Dada... I haver already been sold out.
