HI! seeing the immense interest members here have in hunting the waterborne species aka fish , fishes & phishing I wish to share some photos of the river Satluj which runs in my farmland for about 1 km in Dist. Ropar ( Punjab) . Here are the flicks ;)

I have no problems with trying to fish here - last time I went with my trusted GSD and soon hooked one. As soon as I landed it and the poor fish started its meet your maker dance - flipity flop flipity flop ! the doggy hid his head between his paws and only stole meek embarassed glances to check the torturous tumultous affair!
This experience really humbled me and I want to ask all the gurus how do you adminster the coup -de-grace to the poor fish you land? or you just let the fat lady sing till it sings its swan song ? Please let me know how to kill the fish in a moer humanely acceptable manner respecting its oxygen breathing rights! :)

Er........are you sure you don`t mean 100 metres ? That river looks a lot wider than 100 ft !.........and huge compared to our local tiddlers.

Hit it on the head with a priest.

Incidentally, nine out of ten fish caught, if not all, are released as soon as they are photographed.

Mack The Knife, I have the feeling that the statement "Hit it on the head with a priest" is going to cause all sorts of confusion in the minds of some members....................................!!!

Priests and choir boys seem to be a more obvious connection than priest and fish

Shutzen, bash the fish on the head with a small rock.Should do the trick

But using priest is just so much more elegant.
Just grab him by the ankles and swing his head down onto the fishes head. If you have to use a choirboy you might find that you have to bash the fish more than once because choirboys are much lighter than priests....................................

 read about the electric taser priests on the net - though in a wet fishing environment and the fishy flopping around chances of the fisherman tasing himself go up manifold....... ;) hold still....click..... BZzzzttt....... splash sputer sputer ..)

LMAO !
Anyone who uses such an unnecessary device as a Taser `priest` deserves to electrocute himself `up his own manifold` !

"Sure, priests are more effective as the choir boy comes attached".

I don`t think that I want to know just how they are attached..........BUT if you mean hand-to-foot then yes, such `priests` are bound to be more effective as there is the extra leverage of the nunchaku effect.

Shutzen

Nice pictures. The Ropar water head works upstream should be a good fishing point, Governor Gen Rodrigues fishes there and in the reservoir. Few years back I read about issues with toxic discharge from the various industrial units on the Ropar - Nawanshahar road ( which runs parallel to the Canal) next to Swaraj mazda plant. I hope enough is being done to control pollution in the canal and the river.

Further downstream at Harike patan where Sutlej and Beas rivers merge, there were sightings of freshwater Indus River Dolphins. Which is very encouraging but lot has to be done in controlling pollution in Punjab, its rivers and ground water. Sorry for going OT.

Best

If you can't find a suitable, and willing, priest, just hit'm over the head with a rock  (the fish, that is).  A hammer handle substitutes nicely for a priest.  Personally, a deep stab with your knife behind the head severs the spine, and lets the fish bleed out,  making it less apt to spoil, and is quicker than repeated whacking over the head, or your hand holding the fish, with priest or rock.  Cheers @ and good fishing.  Two months to go before I'll see fishing water in its liquid form.  So, enough with those pictures of fish and open streams!  No more until June, please.
