There are a lot of amateur posturers on the net with fanciful theories about machine guns and artillery - there is an Indian forum, as well, whose discussions read like the pages of war comic books. This forum exists to promote the shooting sports and to fight for gun ownership laws in India, not to indulge in some armchair commando gossip.
The chances of anyone outside the army shooting a machine gun among the members of this forum are zero. The possibilities of anyone evaluating any machine gun in combat even less with the exception of the fore mentioned service members who are members here. If you want to read about machine guns, buy a subscription to Jane's Defence Review and read it every week. You would get on the spot assessments from various conflict spots around the world from professional military officers and analysts. They are certain to shatter some of the gossip that you have heard and feel enthusiastic about. Or, take a flight to Vandalia for their annual machine gun shoot fest in the US and shoot older machine guns once a year, or try out the full auto shoots in Rockford, Las Vegas etc. It would be all right for some temporary entertainment, but other than that it would make little sense on a forum where we intend to have serious discussions and occasional fun discussing a sport that we dearly love.
We cannot afford to waste bandwidth on an issue that has no significance to any private shooter or gun owner in India, or to 99.99% of people living in the world, including Indians like myself and other who live either in India or outside the country. We have far more pressing issues to work on than indulge in schoolboy gossip. This is not to discourage anyone, but the fact is that there are many shooting sports that are actually dying due to either legal reasons or due to the fact that many people are not aware that they exist. These sports require personal skill and concentration and encourage friendly competitiveness like any other sport, except they are enjoyed with guns. Otherwise it would be a sheer waste of time.
