No such luck - not yet anyhow. To my understanding the original order regarding eligibility stands, only the duty has been done away with. But it's baby steps like this that pave the way for the future opening of the floodgates... I'm very optimistic that within the next 3-5 years we will have a situation wherein imports are freely permissible on payment of applicable duties!

Cheers!

Nope, the basic duty is down to 0%, there are few other components like : Excise / Edu Cess /etc = 22% on imports. ( in case of Imports only )

i today heard on F.M. that the excise duties will be done away from today onwards, so does this exemption fall under this category, or will it come into action in the new Financial year i.e. after 31St march. Also will the duty now be 0% or 22% percent as Kanwal pointed out?

Please can someone throw some light on it

Thanks
Cheers

Sid,

Earlier basic duty was 12.5% + other total about 34.5% now the basic is gone, but others are still there 22%.

These changes implement from Today Only.
