That's right, but what people like us have to do?

While in the city I just carry a copy of my license; I don't want to carry a book around and damage it. I know this is not entirely legal (is it legal?) but usually authorities here overlook the fact that you're not carrying the original but ask you to produce it.

Not being allowed to carry open without a "display" license as reported by Marksman is a little scary. No matter how hard I try; the size of the 1911 doesn't always allow full concealment all the time.

Not that I carry it fully open and holstered. Even acquaintances start whispering when they see a gun. There's some sort of a stigma associated with people who pack; we're either gangsters or connected to gangsters. Well, this is the mentality at least in Mumbai.

AMK, they have some nice belt holsters that fit into the backside of your waist, but you would either need to wear your shirt outside OR wear a jacket on top. While the latter is not always possible in India, the former is a possible option considering the extremely casual dress code prevalent in India. If you are wearing Indian attire like a shalwar kurta/ chudidar kurta etc. you have a bit more options as to concealing the firearm. Outside of business circles, ethnic attire is quite acceptable these days...

I tried a shoulder holster for a while, but a 1911 simply makes too much of a bulge to be comfortable OR inconspicuous using one of those.

Cheers!

Backside of the waist is no good as it's a problem sitting down. I have a Galco belt holster (straight and cross draw) now but with any holster I can't tuck my shirt in. An IWB holster is too uncomfortable for me cause I'm a fairly large guy (being kind to myself).

If only I was in a place where the weather is conducive to wearing an outer garment over a shirt.

***Deleted - Dodgy advice.***

Regarding carrying the license, a reduced colour photocopy of the relevant pages of the license clearly showing the picture of the holder, address, endorsement, the validity of the license and the area validity, all laminated.. should be OK... only when you are about 30-45 minutes away from your home / office from where the original license can be produced, if required. This way, the license looks like your driving license... and easily fits in the purse. However, for distance travel with the firearm, the original will be a must have....

Thanks for the ideas Olly, I carry black and white original license size copies of only the relevant pages. I'll switch to the colour copies now.

amk-Get a colour photocopy of your licence a CTC(certified true copy)by a first class gazetted officer-then it becomes'nearly' as good/genuine as the original.

AMK,
Tuck the 1911 inside left front of your trouser from inside the shirt if it's parkerized or Wrap the 1911 in a small thin plastic bag that covers up to the trigger guard to prevent rusting. The old slabsided is flat enough and conceals well. It works for me and I see no reason why it shouldn't for others. Southpaws, do the reverse.

Some banks do not permit firearms on their premises. You advocated carrying one into the bank surreptiously without permission of the bank. What's more, you did this on an open forum which shows the board in a bad light.

What you seriously need to do is get yourself a wallet.
