If you are importing via post/ courier you REQUIRE a membership of a rifle club/ shooting association. Not necessarily NRAI... See the older posts on this thread for more info...striker";p="33124 wrote: hai friends

On the other hand if you are bringing back one as baggage while returning from an overseas trip - you DO NOT require membership, though it does help prove your antecedents... there is an separate thread covering that route, please see that for more details and lets PLEASE keep this thread on topic...

The Qb and the B-50/51 are manufactured by the Shanghai Airgun factory and Bam. They do not reply to email. Secondly these guns need to be tweaked for trigger and valve work by someone who knows what he is doing to get sweet shooting performance. Your best bet is to order it from Mac1airgun and get Tim to put your rifle together. He is just about to receive his shipment of HW Barrels. He changes the normal Chinese barrels with Hw ones to give you match accuracy though you get that even with the normal Chinese barrels.I quite love my Qb and will probably go for a B50 when I can afford it. But if you go for one make sure that is a tuned one either from Mac1 or my friend Mike Mellick of www.flyingdragon airguns.com . Mike is sweeter natured if you are planning on calling them and does great work on his Qb 78's.striker";p="33129 wrote: how pratical is it to import air rifle like qb&bam series from china .any body tried form china

I think I left space between the name. But you've got the right one Mike is about to begin doing the Chuntsman or the B50 and the B-51 which is the same rifle except for the thumbhole stock. A new cap is the champ with the B-5O/51 a guy called Big Ed but I am not sure if he sends to India. The first two are very reliable with mac1 being really above board in service and all for the B-50. I am so tempted to switch from Co2 to compressed air with drop in parts from Big Ed but lets see. Right now my QB 78 is just fine everything is working great.mundaire";p="33155 wrote: Hi Dev,

Re: Importing Arms & Ammo into India
Hi Dev...had some questions to ask in context to joining a rifle club.
1. Is import of the 0.177 allowed only if I am a memebr of NRAI? Can it be some other rifle shooting club, provided it is associated with NRAI?
2. Is an introducer necessary for joining the NRAI?
3. How many imports can be done? Any stipulation on the number of times in a year etc?
4. The NRAI site states a variety of memberships (life long, annual etc). Which one is most suited for, in case the sole idea to become a member is to allowed the air gun import?
5. Once a member, is it simple enough to import the 0.177?
6. Does the membership also allow importing 0.177 pellets?
7. Which states have the NRAI club? Or is it that I just need to send in the form with the DD & I can be anywhere in India?
Sorry buddy...questions glaore but I am really keen to know these. Maybe some of these may have been covered in previous posts therefore ignore answering those. I'll look them up.
Cheers!!

Visit NRAI on the web at www.nrai.in and all your Q's will be answered.
And you dont need to be a member of the NRAI to import a air gun, membership of a state rifle assocciation will do,unless off course you are keen to spend 15 K

Hi Karandheer,
Am afraid the import of airguns has not yet been made into a KB article under the Legal Eagle section. For now we've simply collected the relevant posts under two threads, one covering the experiences of members importing airguns back as baggage and this is the other one covering experiences of importing via post/ courier.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused...
Cheers!

So long as you are a member of an NRAI affiliated rifle club/ shooting association it should be fine. This could be a state/ district or any other rifle association affiliated with NRAI.1. Is import of the 0.177 allowed only if I am a memebr of NRAI? Can it be some other rifle shooting club, provided it is associated with NRAI?
Am afraid so, you'll actually need TWO current NRAI members to introduce you with their signatures on the application form.2. Is an introducer necessary for joining the NRAI?
This is a bit of a grey area. The notification makes no mention of the quantity allowed, however it does say that these can be imported for personal use only and NOT on a commercial basis. Therefore customs officials are free to interpret it whichever way they please. The safe option would be NOT to import more than ONE air-rifle/ air-pistol at a time.3. How many imports can be done? Any stipulation on the number of times in a year etc?
NONE OF THEM!! If that is the sole goal, then you would be wasting your money on a NRAI membership, for e.g. a life membership costs INR 15,000/-!! You would be better off taking an annual membership of your local (state/ district) shooting club/ rifle association in stead. It'll be quicker and a darn sight cheaper...4. The NRAI site states a variety of memberships (life long, annual etc). Which one is most suited for, in case the sole idea to become a member is to allowed the air gun import?
Yep, read the earlier posts on this thread for real life experiences of the members here.5. Once a member, is it simple enough to import the 0.177?
Not yet! Actually this is again a grey area, the notification itself says nothing about pellet imports so this has been interpreted by the customs officials to mean a clear NO.6. Does the membership also allow importing 0.177 pellets?
The NRAI is a Nationwide organisation, AFAIK formed through an act of Parliament... It has NO shooting facilities (range etc.) of it's own... it's an umbrella body under which come all of the other clubs/ associations. However as you can see above, you'd be better off joining a local club...7. Which states have the NRAI club? Or is it that I just need to send in the form with the DD & I can be anywhere in India?

About Importing from China:
Air arms are illegal in china market, you won't find them in any store / toy shop. I have been there many times haven't come across any shop selling such stuff.
Chinese make a lot of product which are not for there home consumption.
For the companies who make them I can only assume that they are all for Export only and they won't be interested in small individual orders.
I'll let some friend from china to contact Fly Dragon and seek an explanation about this......

Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Hi Abhijeet...thanks for being patient & answering those queries. Will take cue about wht u've mentioned & search out a local club that is affiliated to NRAI. The intention is very clear: importing an air rifle via courier. Let's see how this goes.
Regards.

Ok let me get this straight. Although the law does not prohibit 0.177 import, there are cases where people importing 0.177 airguns also have to go and fight with customs. Makes the caliber issue kinda superfluous.
There's one thing I didnt understand. Is a membership with a shooting club a must to get an imported rifle whether it comes in with personal baggage, or post/courier ? I wanted to get a 0.177 R9 and I have mailed mac1 and straight shooters for prices. But this could cause a problem.
Another thing is about the customs. Lets say that the courier does come in to India. Where exactly would they hold it ? Delhi ? I am based in Bangalore.
Appreciate your input.

Any restrictions on the power of an air rifle applied at our customs while you get something here - i mean more than a 12 ft lb rifle becomes a firearm in uk but apparently not so in the usa.i know Jonah got one through but that as per specs its only 550 fps if i am not wrong.anybody heard of a BSA Techstar- it was an xcellent value for mony PCP which managed 1000 fps in 177 at $ 300! .andy
