Spent Ammo account

Post by antismuggler » Sun Nov 04, 2007 3:17 pm

Hi folks

A few doubts on what a licensed arms holder can or cannot do?
1) Can a licensed arms holder practice his shooting in any area other than a shooting range? ( Without harming anyone of course !!!)

2) Does a licensed arms holder have to collect the spent bullets and show it as evidence that he has used it before he can purchase his next lot of 10/25 bullet entitlement as per license?

3) Are there any clarifications on these in the arms act or rules?

with regards

1) Yes - for example if you are a landowner, you would be well within your rights to shoot over your land. However, this cannot be within city limits/ a populated area, or if there is temporary local order to the contrary... However, as always it would be your responsibility to ensure that safety precautions are adhered to etc.

2) No. There is no provision that forces you to collect your empty brass and produce it before anyone, prior to purchasing your next lot of ammo. However, if you are buying imported ammo from your rifle club/ SAI for the purpose of target shooting (at rates well below market prices here) - you are usually required to deposit all empty shells and unfired ammo with them prior to leaving the shooting range. This is basically meant to prevent black marketing of the ammo meant for target practice....

If you want to read the law (Arms Act & Arms Rules) It is available online here >>>
