the bone, antler, tusk or horn used is pre-1972, one is pretty much restricted to wood as far as natural materials go.

How do you find buffalo horn for a handle material? By buffalo I'm sure the HI guys mean the tamed ones and not the ones in the wild.Have you come across buffalo/or any other animal's femur being used as handle material?

I have seen Khukuri handles made of deer antler that 'fall off'.Do deer's really 'shed' antlers during spring?

Good thinking, Pran.

Domestic buffalo horn is legal and can be used. People even make butt-plates out of them. However, if polished, it's slippery stuff when wet.

Yes, deers shed their antlers annually.

Won't some kind of Epoxy concoction be any use here?.... say a composite of epoxy and sawdust, or epoxy and glass fiber, epoxy and wood chips, epoxy and bone dust?.... just a lame suggestion :) No need to take it serious ly if it doesn't make sense.

Jonah,

How much are you looking at pricing this?

Cheers!

Hang on Abhijeet.. I am trying to keep it under the 2000 mark on my side but I am looking to push our blacksmiths beyond their present skill levels and expertise.. Brass work is foreign to them and I am helping them out after having successfully experimented with metal casting during the last few years.

The product I expect to come out with will be mirror polished aka Bill Moran etc.. With the best Burma Rose wood handle (smuggled via Manipur) Chemical Etching of logo.. Brass works.. Plus Best Buffalo leather Sheath from Kanpur (Price quote and sample not yet received due to festival holidays).. I am hoping to be able to send a sample each to Delhi and Banglalore by next month so you will be able to see it yourself..

Meanwhile let's keep our spirits up and see what this 'Mad Mizo' can come up with..

Jonah

(P.S. The photo above has just been roughly ground after all the anvil work)

It wasn't me who went all sour and girly...

I know you are trying for a fascimilie of the Puma bowie but I really would add a little more width to the handle.

The grind line towards the point is a bit off (I think - could be wrong) which may (not sure) result in a thicker/stronger point. Not a bad thing considering it will mostly be sold to those who aren't upto speed on using knives properly...Yaj and Asif being the exceptions.

Is that a bit of belly on the front edge or is the pic misleading?

The Spyderco Morans do not have a mirror finished blade.

Cast metal may be somewhat brittle. Just a thought.

Dont worry about the width rusty.. If it feels too small with the normal two piece wooden handle, I'll just use a wrap around hande (belly side)

This is just a first rough grind. Minimum 4 more comming up. Then the polish as the final touch after tempering and fitting of brass guards and bolsters etc..

Is that a bit of belly on the front edge or is the pic misleading? The scanner could not take the entire knife so one side was lifted off from the glass thus...

Yup! They have that rough grind polished look dunno what its called.. I meant to refer to what ever knife that has a mirror finish..

By the way did you just have sex?? You seem so.. so.. placated :D

If you want an example of a mirror polished blade have a look at the Himalayan Import khukuris. Personally, I find them far too garish.

Easy, Moan-ah, this is an Indian website. Prudes abound. However, if you do want to wind me up, you could always talk about shooting dogs (remember?) but it may see you marching off this site smartish.
