Re: Modified Ashani Pistol
While the workmanship is really very good, the gun still looks horrid....a total abomination.
This is more to do with the limitations that the IOF design imposes on cosmetic mods. Anything better would require a drastic overhaul and parts replacement.
Anyway its a start.

The revolver is way better and it feels decent in my hands, haven't shot one yet but I'll put my money on the revolver any day.cottage cheese";p="29531 wrote: While the workmanship is really very good, the gun still looks horrid....a total abomination.

Then the revolver it is!!
I think speaking if IOF stuff, the revolver may be a better option.

Hey Dev,

Am actually thinking about the .22 as the ammo will be more plinkable and it looks sorta cute. Maybe next year when I renew the rifle license.

Dev

Now where is this guy when you need him most! Its just the slide lock.. that too looks like a manual job unlike the locks on 1911's which automatically locks the slide open on the last round.CC, is there a grip safety on the Ashani-looks like one in the pic above...

Ah Dev,Am actually thinking about the .22 as the ammo will be more plinkable and it looks sorta cute. Maybe next year when I renew the rifle license.
And I was meaning the .32 walla revolver
Do they still peddle the 22s with aluminium cylinders? Been a while since I stopped bothering to keep updated on the thievery at IOF.
Well if someones primary purpose for owning a revolver is plinking, then by all means try the .22 walla.
Quite honestly, looks wise, it's a wee bit more palatable than the .32 clonk.

CC

Ya thats a grip safety. As you can clearly see, the rear half of the gun is simply a lift from the Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless.
Even more amazing that the IOF people haven't touted it (Grip Safety) as the innovation of the century
Honestly speaking, no idea what the finish is for the frame. The slide is obviously blue.
Could be electroless as you suggested. Certainly doesn't look nickle. Wouldn't harm to ask the folks at gunaccessory.com

CC

Was out today doing my daddy bit
Thats actually the manual safety catch, which also doubles as a manual hold-open latch to aid disassembly....plain 1903

ashani
i am a new entrant i have an ofb revolver which i find too bulky and inconvinient to carry, i am contemplating buying a ashani and get it mdified in bombay, and intend to use imprted cartiridges
but few of my friends have suggested the weapon is lousy,
but i feel that the design is time tested, and workmanship can be improved by our friendly neighbourhood gunsmith.
please advise.

If you require the gun for self defence, which i presume you do, you are much better off with the IOF Revolver than with the pistol. Ofcourse, if you would like to show off and say that you have a PISTOL, ofcourse any pistol would do in that case. Your choice between the IOF Rev and Pistol is like a choice between the devil and the deep sea !
