New License for Personal Protection
Dear All,
Hope all is well. I am a proprietor of tech services business, I have to travel a lot by roads in Night/Day basically at odd times and often it becomes unsafe, also because my family have certain wealth related reputation. So as suggested by my parents I should get personal protection such as Handgun. So I need your suggestion/guidance on this:
- Personal income is 90+ Lakhs as per Income Tax
- Me or no one in my family have never been convicted for anything
- Me or no one in my family have FIR on Name
- Me or no one in my family ever had Arms license
- I have no temper issues, never fought with anyone
- Medically I am 100% fit
Please suggest, am I eligible and what exactly I have to do? Need some training for gun or anything?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Dear sourabhsangale,
Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're saying and I somewhere agree, but my concern is person security which I'm not sure how DM or CP can help 24x7.
Please suggest, am I eligible for Arms (pistol) license and what exactly I have to do? Need some training for gun or anything?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Although there is single Arms Act for the entire country, but the rules are interpreted and executed differently in almost all the district arms branches of the country.AdityaTalreja wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 9:51 pmDear All,

For example in my district, an approach from a politician in power to the DM works more than money/bribe.
The best way for you would be to visit your district arms branch and find out which is the best way to follow and then work accordingly.
Remember getting arms license in India demands hard work, struggle, faith, patience and passion.

You are eligible. Whether you will get it depends on how the licensing authorities treat your application. Apply first and take it from there. If they refuse, you can challenge it in court.

Not necessarily though in some jurisdictions it is required. I heard that they ask for it in Bangalore. I suggest you go for it.

Under the new arms act training certificate has become mandatory in Bihar. Even if you possess a weapon with the requisite licence, you still need to get it for a second weapon. There is also some talk of all old licence holders being required to get it.
Had to get it for my second weapon.

Thank you all for all your help!
Another concern, I currently live on rent by myself from last 3+ years and already my new owned house getting ready in few months. So should I apply for license while staying on rent or once I move in my own property? Both properties are in same area.
Does this make any difference in application??

Re: New License for Personal Protection
Dear Aditya,
The licensing procedure is a time taking process, apply it as per your current address.
If you get your AL, you have sufficient time- 2 years to purchase and produce it in the police stations for identity. During this period, if your change your place of residence then you can use the new address and to the police station and LA of that jurisdiction.
Where is your current residence, IFGians from your area may guide you better.
Good luck.

Dear StampMaster, thanks for your reply. I live & belong to Gurgaon, Haryana.StampMaster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 7:56 pmDear Aditya,

To confirm again:
1. Does it affect AL application in anyway if I apply while staying in rental accommodation or should I proceed after moving in my own property?
2. Is there any specific requirement to stay in the property mentioned in application for X months or years before someone can apply for AL? and does it affect?

Re: New License for Personal Protection
Hi Aditya,
Not sure about Gurgaon, but in Delhi you have to provide reference of 2 neighbors who have known you for sometime. This is during the police verification process. Also if I remember correctly, you have to provide details of all the places you stayed in during the last 5 years.
