I know the feeling.
Since it’s still a very valid cartridge, keep an eye out with your local dealers for .32-40. Who know? You may get lucky

Just a thought, since it is more than 50 years old and a relatively rare caliber. Can it be registered as a Curio and retained with the family due to sentimental reasons and the licence gets freed for a new rifle?
